<p>1880 New Years day (Thursday) 1880</p>
<p>January 1st</p>
<p>A very fine day. Mary Ann and Dennis came up to dinner so we had a large party. Bill came to tea. Harold went to Iroquois to a Ball. Andrew went to Prescott. The young ones danced and played games till after eleven o'clock</p>
<p>Friday 2nd</p>
<p>A warm day, thawed fast all day. Andrew and James took the old piano to Prescott. Harold came home about two o'clock In the afternoon he took all the four children to Brockville. Mary Ann took Lucia and Ella to Prescott. Dennis staid here. Henry Morey called for a few minutes.</p>
<p>Saturday 3rd</p>
<p>A very fine day, soft rained haid at night. Andrew and Harold began working in the woods. Allen and Jimmie did the chores. No callers today.</p>
<p>Sunday 4th</p>
<p>A very warm day, snow going fast. Clara Henderson came over. Maggie, Andrew, Allen, + Dennis went to church. Bill brought Lucia home and took Dennis away with him in, the evening. Harold not at all well.</p>
<p>Monday 5th</p>
<p>A very fine day. Andrew and Harold in the woods. Lucia went out skating with Clara Henderson. No callers. Allen and Maggie went to Brockville.</p>

<p>A very wet thauring day, Harold and Andrew in the woods all day, Emily came over to tea. Annie and Clara came in the evening.</p>
<p>Wednesday 4th</p>
<p>A very fine day. Andrew away all day collecting Mr Lewis's salary and looking for a girl. Maggie went out for a walk. Lucia and the baby went out on the River with Allen. Mrs Lewis and Miss Hammons called to see Maggie. Annie Henderson and Winnie came over. Sarah Lenuset came and staid all night.</p>
<p>Thursday 8th</p>
<p>A very fine morning. Harold went to Brockville. Andrew in the woods all day. In the evening Maggie and I went to Emily's to see Harold came for us.</p>
<p>Friday 9th</p>
<p>A very fine day. Margaret and Lucia spent the day in Presestt. Ella came up with three in the evening. Allen went to Maitland.</p>
<p>Saturday 10th</p>
<p>A very fine day, Andrew, James and Maggie went to Presestt Brockville Andrew sold a tub of butter for 21cts a pound. Miss Howells came back this afternoon. Andrew went to the woods in the afternoon.</p>

<p>A fine day, Magaret, Miss Howells, Allen, and Harold wenr to church. In the afternoon Margaret went over the swamp. Ella went home, Harold took her.</p>
<p>Monday 12th</p>
<p>A dull disagreeable day. No sleighing to speak of. Andrew and Harold ent wood in the near swamp. Allen began taking lessons from Mr. Mary well, an hour a day. In the evening All of the family except Andrew + Myself with baby spent the evening at Mr. Lewis's.</p>
<p>X Tuesday 13th</p>
<p>A fine day, sleighing very bad, no snow. James went to Brockville. I went over to Emilys in the afternoon with Allen. Andrew and Harold in the woods. Andrew has a bad cold.</p>
<p>Wednesday 14th</p>
<p>A very fine day. I spent the day at Emily's helping Edith. Maggie went to Presestt and bought up Mary Ann in the evening. Andrew and Harold in the woods. Lila Hammond came down and staid to dinner.</p>
<p>Thursday 15th</p>
<p>A very fine day. Maggie, Mary Ann, and my-self went to Marci's and spent the day. Andrew and Harold in the woods all day. No callers.</p>
<p>Friday 16th</p>
<p>A fine day, sleighing nearly all gone. Maggie and Mary Ann went over to Sols and to Miss Becks, In the afternoon the Miss Denubrillers called to called money for a present for Emily Henderson. Maggie went to Maitland in the afternoon. Bill came and took Mary Ann home.</p>

<p>A very wet day. Andrew, Maggie, and I went to Prescott in the buck board. I went to see Annie Sharpe, she is very ill, I dont think she will live long if she does not get better soon. Maggie went back to Prescott to stay at Bills. No callers. Caroll has a bad cold.</p>
<p>Sunday 18th</p>
<p>A very wet day. Harold sick with a cold. Allen, Andrew, and Lucia went to church. No callers, except Sol and the boys in the evening.</p>
<p>Monday 19th</p>
<p>A rainy day. Andrew and James went to the woods. Harold bot coble to go out. Nothing doing, no callers. turned very cold tonight.</p>
<p>Tuesday 20th</p>
<p>A bitterly cold. some snow fell. Andrew and James went to the swamp but had to come home it was so cold. no visitors.</p>
<p>Wednesday 21st</p>
<p>A lovely day, just cold enough to be pleasent. Lucia and Miss Howells called at Mrs Lewis's. Mrs Mrs + Mr Lewis and Miss Smith called here. Annie Henderson came over to tea.</p>
<p>Thursday 22nd</p>
<p>A fine day, good sleighing. Andrew and James in the swamp. Nothing particular happened. Bella had a daugther tonight at Nyntheille</p>

<p>A fearfully lovely day. Mary Ann and Maggie went home. Andrew and I went to Presestt. Andrew went over the River. I went to see Annie Sharpe. I look carisle to Presestt. James took a load of oats to Mr McCarthy's.</p>

<p>A very fine day. Andrew, Allen, + Lucia went to church in the morning. Allen, Lucia, and Miss Howells went to church in the evening. Sol and his two boys were over in the evening. Harold still laid up with a cold.</p>

<p>A very fine day. Andrew went to the back woods to chop. Nothing particular happened. Harold still poorly with his cold, sleghing going fast.</p>

<p>A very warm wet day. Andrew in the woods all day. Harold, Lucia, and Miss Howells went to Camibal at Presestt, it was late when they came home. No visitors.</p>

<p>A rainy warm day. Andrew in the woods all day. Emily Henderson and the then Miss Hendersons came over to tea and spent the evening here</p>
<p>Friday 30th</p>
<p>A fine day, no snow to speak of. Andrew in the woods all day. Nothing particular happened. The Hendersons came to tea tonight instead of last night, the Missionary meeting was held in Maitland last night. Miss Howells and Harold went to the meeting.</p>
<p>Saturday 31st</p>
<p>A fine day, but looked like snow, Andrew in the woods as usual. Young Mary called and paid Andrew 40 dollars intrest money it snowed heavily tonight.</p>

<p>Sunday 1st</p>
<p>A very stormy cold day, {illegible}. several degrees below zero. Andrew and Allen went to church. Lucia quite sick with a swelled face.</p>

<p>A very fine day. Andrew went to Ogdeusburg and brought Jammie home. I went to Emily to help her get ready for Edith's wedding. Mr Hewat, Mr Clart, and Mrs McMallow came here and staid all night.</p>
<p>Thursday 5th</p>
<p>A {A piece of paper about people involved in a wedding} day. We all went to the church today to see Edith Hendersons married to Mr Hewat. Harold, Allen, Andrew and myself went to the breakfast at Emily's. Jammie, Miss Howells, Allen, and Harold went to an assembly in Presestt.</p>
<p>Friday 6th</p>
<p>A very fine day. Andrew went to Presestt and brought Jammie and Miss Howells home after the Assembly. Harold and Allen came home at six o'clock this morning. Annie Jones was here for a few minutes.</p>
<p>X Staurday 4th</p>
<p>A fine day but snowy. Andrew tool James took to North Aguste and went to Marickville for a plough beams. No callers today, all the young ones tired out after the assembly</p>

<p>A very cold day. Jammie, Lucia, Harold and myself went to church in the morning. A nothing particular happed.</p>

<p>A very cold but bright day. Andrew went to the woods all day. Harold drew wood all day. ALlen went to Maitland.</p>
<p>Tuesday 10th</p>
<p>A very cold day. Andrew and Harold worked round the house all day. In the evening Andrew and Jammie and I went to Presestt to a Tableauy. Concert, Maggie quite poorly. Jammie staid all night in Presestt.</p>
<p>Ash Wednesday 11th</p>
<p>A cold stormy day but very bright. Andrew was busy setting the saw over the swamp all day. Annie and Clara Hendreson came over in the evening. Rained hard tonight.</p>
<p>Thursday 12ht</p>
<p>A very windy warm day, nearly all the snow gone, Andrew and Harold saving wood over the swamp all day. Nothing particular happened. No callers today.</p>
<p>Friday 13th</p>
<p>A warm day, but snowed at night. Bill came in to see me. Emily and Miss Blakey came over tea. Annie and Clara came in the evening. Andrew and Harold in the woods all day.</p>
<p>Saturday 14th</p>
<p>A very fine day, good sleighing, James Starr came and paid Andrew some intrest money. Allen went to Presestt and staid all night. Andrew and Harold worked round the house all day.</p>

<p>A fine day, a little snow fell in the morning Ernie and Allen came up and went to church Ernie staid till evening Allen took him down. Miss Howells, Allen, and Ernie took tea at Emily's.</p>

<p>A very warm day just like spring, sleighing all gone. Allen, Lucia, and Miss Howells went to a carnival in Presestt. Bill came in the evening and played cards for a couple of hours.</p>
<p>Wednesday 18th</p>
<p>A very warm wet day, ice nearly all out of the River again. Andrew and Harold went to the woods but had to come home it rained so heavily, See the afternoon Andrew for Nelliw shord and went to see Mr Lewis. I got letters from Bob Henry and Mary Ballaohey and answered them both.</p>
<p>Thursday 19th</p>
<p>A very cold windy. Andrew and Harold went to Lyon to see about apple trees. Nothing particular happened. Sol was over for a few minutes.</p>

<p>A stormy morning, the men did not go over the swamp. Harold went to Maitland and got a sleigh frfired, he brought home a letter from Dean. Bill came in the evening and played cards.</p>
<p>Sunday 22nd</p>
<p>A fine day, no sleighing. Andrew, Allen Lucia and Miss Howells went to church In the morning. Nothing intresting to tell about today.</p>
<p>Monday 23rd</p>
<p>A very snowy day. Andrew and Harold were over the swamp all day. Lucia went to see Lila Hammond who is very sick.</p>
<p>Tuesday 24</p>
<p>A fine day just like spring, Annie and Clara were over in the evening. Harold and Andrew in the woods all day. Nothing particular doing.</p>
<p>Wednesday 26th</p>
<p>A very fine day, no snow or ice, we have not any ice in yet. Andrew and Harold in the woods sawing Sols wood. I wrote to Annie tonight. Lila Hammond very poorly. Mrs Morris died today.</p>

<p>A wet day. Andrew came home about noon. Lucia and Miss Howells went to see Lila she is very sick. I finished quilting a quilt for the girls bed. No visitors today.</p>

<p>A very windy day. Harild, Miss Howells and Lucia went to church. Nothing doing.</p>
<p>Monday March 1st</p>
<p>A lovely day. Andrew and Harols over the swamp, to see me and gave me some powders for baby, who has a bad cold.</p>
<p>Tuesday 2nd</p>
<p>A lovely day. Harols went to Brockville and took 14 lbs of butter today. Mr Lewis called In a few minutes. Miss Howells and Lucia went over to Emily's in the afternoon.</p>

<p>A very warm day. Andrew and Harold drove in from Mr Lewis pond. I finished boiling the molasses I had a part then piats. Annie Hendreson came over for a little while. Caroll's cold very bad, I am afriad he has got congestion of the lungs.</p>

<p>A warm close day, baby very sick, Andrew went for Bill early this morning. baby has congestion of the lungs. Andrew and Harold went to Wrights comes for a load of saw dust.</p>
<p>Friday 5th</p>
<p>A rainy day. Andrew and Harold worked all day round the house. Young Muray called and paid Andrew 46 dollars. Andrew Had called and Bill called in the evening.</p>
<p>Saturday 6h</p>
<p>A warm morning, then was a little snow fell tonight. Harold went to Brockville and sold 17 lbs of butter and 15 dozen of eggs. I paid Miss Howells 25 dollars, her quarter salary. Allen went to Maitland and got a 1/2 lb of tea.</p>
<p>Sunday 7th</p>
<p>A fine morning but wet afternoon. Andrew and Allen went to church. Annie and Clara came over in the afternoon.</p>
<p>Monday 8th</p>
<p>A very cold day, {illegible} down to see this morning. Andrew went down to the Town Hall to attend the council meeting. The new man came today Harold and Robert drew in all the afternoon. Caroll a good deal better. I am busy boiling sap.</p>

<p>A very cold day, no snow, but an north cast wind cold enough to cut everyone in two. The men went over the swamp to saw wood. the first lamb of the season came today. ___ ___ _____ ______ ___________</p>
<p>Lucia I woke last in this forward I have been very sick and was laid up for nearly two weeks in bed. Maggie has been here missing me. Mary Ann spent a couple of days here. Harold has boiled some sap over the swamp. hee has made a nice lot of molasses. they have sawed wood here for there days. There are there calvew now. one sheep died Miss Jessie Wilson died on Good Friday, she is to be buried today. Yesterday was Easter Sunday the 28 of March, Andrew, Maggie and the boys went to church. Annie Hendreson was over. Emily has been here to see me there on four times. Mr Lewis has come to and has been very kind. Lila Hammond is very ill. The weather has been very changeable and very cold for the season of the year. Caroll still has a bad cold in his head I still try and knit regularly now.</p>

<p>A cloudy day. Andrew went to the {illegible} meeting. The boys both went as Pall Bearers to Miss Wilsons funeral. Bill came to see me. Andrew went to Presestt in the afternoon. Mary Ann and Ida called in the afternoon and got some oats and 2 dollars in money.</p>

<p>A lovely day. Andrew, Harold and Robert went over the swamp to work. Allen went to Maitland and paid Mrs Barton her salary. Nothing particular doing.</p>
<p>Wednesday 31st</p>
<p>A very fine day, Sol and Andrew commenced to start saw wood but broke down before they got a cord cut. Andrew went to Presestt in the afternoon and ordered a new wheel. No person here today.</p>
<p>Thursday, April 1st</p>
<p>A lovely day just like summer. Another call came today. Harold, Lucia and Miss Howells went over the swamp to boil sap. Andrew put up the hams to smoke.</p>
<p>Friday 2nd</p>
<p>A very fine day, as warm as summer. Bill and Annie came up. The man split wood all day, I put the {illegible} fly {illegible} on my chest tought. Nothing particular doing.</p>
<p>Saturday 3rd</p>
<p>A very warm day. Andrew went to Brockville Harold went over the swamp part of the day he made the hot bed in the afternoon. I was in bed all day with a blister on.</p>

<p>A warm day, but not so hot as yesterday. Sol and Andrew were here saving wood oneof the cows very sick. Allen went to Maitland to get medicine for it. The cow died tonight.</p>

<p>A fine day.Robert went to Presestt. Dennie came up with him. Andrew skinned the cow. Bill came up late at night to see me. I sent a letter to Bella and got one from Mama and Annie.</p>
<p>Wednesday 4th</p>
<p>A very cold morning with quite a flurry of snow Sol and Andrew came over to saw wood. They finished the wood at dinnerr time. Andrew paid old Mr Robinson 70 cents for mounding his boots in Maitland</p>
<p>Thursday 8th</p>
<p>A cold day but fine. Robert went to Brockville Another lamb came today. Mary Ann came over in the afternooon. Allen drove his horse I got a letter from Will.</p>
<p>Friday 9th</p>
<p>A very windy day. Dennie and Maggie went to Presestt. Robert went to Brockville with a load of hay. Harold made a gallon of molases. Jude and Clarence came up with Maggie from Presestt.</p>

<p>A very cold disagreeable day. A very hard frost last night. Harold went over the swamp to boil sap. Andrew went to a cheese meeting. Allen sent to Maitland. Allen paid Mr Marshall $7.50</p>

<p>A very dark cold day just like March weather. Harold went over the swamp. Andrew Allen and Robert went to Brockville. Bill came in the evening for a few minutes.</p>
<p>Wednesday 14th</p>
<p>A very strong east wind. Harold and Mrs Howells went to Presestt. Allen went to Maitland and over to Emily's in the evening. Robert was ploughing, they plouged for the first time last Thursday the 8 of April.</p>
<p>Thursday 15th</p>
<p>A warm windy day, the {illegible} stood at alarming heat all day, bodogeres, yesterday it stood at Freeying point all day.</p>
<p>Friday 11th</p>
<p>A pouring wet day. The men worked round the house. Allen went to a theatered performence in Presestt he staid all night. Bill was in for a few minutes.</p>

<p>A fine day but windy just like March Robert ploughed all day. Harold went to Dagleishes and Bartons. Andrew and William was here for tea. Andrew worked at the cheese factory all the afternoon.</p>
<p>Tuesday 20th</p>
<p>A very windy day. Andrew sent the milk to the factory for the first time. he sent 102 pounds of milk. Robert ploughed all day. Andrew and Harold {illegible} in the {illegible} noon and worked in the garden in the afternoon. No visitors. Three lambs today.</p>
<p>Wednesday 21st</p>
<p>A very fine day. Andrew sent 105 lbs of milk to the factory today. Maggie went back to Bills: Harold took her to Presestt this forenow Carroll is three years old today, he measures 3ft 3 in. C Bill in</p>

<p>A very wet day. Mrs Lester came and cleaned the Mens room and flow room. Andrew Harold and Robert went to Presestt. Robert bought home a load of shingles. Allen took 103 lbs of milk to the factory.</p>

<p>A very windy day. Andrew and the men busy in the field part of the day. In the afternoon Andrew made a box to pack Bella's things in. Rained hard at night.</p>

<p>A very windy disagreeable day more like than March than May. Allen Lucia and Miss Howells went to Presestt. Lucia got a pair of boots and slippers. Bill came to tea. Andrew took all Bella's funiture to the statow. Harold a little better.</p>

<p>A very fine day. Allen Lucia and Miss Howells went to church. No person here.</p>

<p>A very windy day. Lucia and Miss Howells went to Presestt. Andrew planted the early potatoes and some of the apple trees. Mary Ann and Andrew were here in the afternoon for a few minutes.</p>

<p>A very fine day. Annie from Sols was here for tea. Henry Morey was here for dinner. Lucia set a few on duck eggs. I got a letter from Bella and Answered it. Andrew set out fifty four apple trees, and sowed some oats the first he has sown this year.</p>
<p>Wednesday 5th</p>
<p>A very fine day. Andrew planted trees part of the day. he sowed oats below the road. Lol and Andrew were here. Mr McCallough from Brockville came and took away his house that was here, he paid Andrew ten dollars. Flan Barton went away, Andrew paid him $7.50.</p>
<p>Thursday 6th</p>
<p>A fine day, Andre finished the apple trees. Harold not much better. Johnson Starratt came to work. No callers. the wind very cold tonight.</p>
<p>Friday 7th</p>
<p>Anice day, but quite cool, frost last night Lucia and I cleaned the dining room Mary Ann came over to tea, Emily came for a few minutes. Miss Bertha Fielole was married on the 29th of April.</p>

<p>A very hot day just like summer. Andrew took me as far as McCleans for a drive.Rufers paid him 30 dollars part payment for the house he bought. No caller or news.</p>

<p>A fine morning, about two O'clock Ive had a heavy thunder shower, the rain did a great deal of good. Andrew began to plant potatoes in the afternoon and sowed barley. No callers.</p>

<p>A very warm morning but cool evening. Andrew, Miss Howell, and Lucia went to Brockville and brought me some things for the house, I heard today that Annie Sharpe is very ill again.</p>

<p>A very cold north wind, blew all day. Andrew planted potatoes. Mary Ann came over to tea. No other visitors.</p>
<p>Thursday 13</p>
<p>A very cold east wind. Andrew planted potatoes. Men sowed grain and ploughed. Little Andrew went home, Andrew paid him a dollar for four days work.</p>

<p>A very cold wind this morning but very warm in the evening. Andrew finished planting potatoes and sowed oats and barley Bill came for a few minutes. Lucia and miss Howells went to Maitland.</p>

<p>A very warm day, we want rain badly. Lola came over to help me clean house, we cleaned the Halll upstairs. Lucia and Miss Howells got their dresses fitted at Mrs Makers. Men both ploughing. Andrew and Harold sowed pumpkins. No visitors.</p>

<p>A rainy day, Lola and I sewed all day. Men Andrew and Harold went to Presestt. Robert went to Maitland sick. Nothing particular doing.</p>

<p>A fine day, Ida and I cleaned Lucia's room and sewed. Robert came back this evening. Mrs Lester was here for dinner. no company.</p>

<p>A very hot day, the hottest we have had this summer. Andrew and Harold worked in the gardens and drew out manuere. Annie and Clara came over in the evening. Lola, Andrew and myself cleaned the big bedroom. Lucia went to Maitland.</p>

<p>A very fine day but very hot. Andrew took me to Brockville with him to sell the wood. I got fearfuly tired. I paid Hutchisons Bill and paid Mrs Howells 26 dollars has yours salary up to the 6 th of September.</p>

<p>A very close hot day. Allen took Mrs. Howlls to Brockville she has gone for good lam happy to say. Emily Hendreson came over and bought me a nice sponge cake. Andrew busy hoeing potatoes.</p>

<p>A rainy day, Andrew went to Presestt and brought me some nice {illegible} Maltos. We got a letter from Harold, I answered it and sent hime from postage stamps.</p>

The family went to Mrs. Lewis, Miss Hendreson came and took me for a drive. Clara Hendreson came over and brought five turkey eggs to Caroll. Lucia brought home fifty packets of sugar. Lola went home this evening.</p>

<p>A fine day. Andrew finished using buckwheat Lucia set a hen on the turkey egg. Allen went to Presestt in the boat. No visitors.</p>

<p>A fine day, with just little bits of showers. Allen went to Presestt and brought up the new {illgible} girl, Maggie and Lucin went berry picking. Sol was here all day helping to draw the hay. Allen mowed all the afternoon.</p>

<p>A very hot day, Allen, Maggie and Julian went to church. Ms. Lewis called, also family and May over and {illgible} from over the swamp.</p>

<p>A wet day, Andrew filled the lunch went to Presett killed a sheep, Arnold went over to the church for the rest of the men hoed when the rain died stop them.</p>

<p>A fine morning but cold. Allen went to Presett. Andrew was in the garden as the barley was wet get to bring in - no callens - Robert went to Brockville.</p>
<p>Wednesday 4th</p>
<p>A cloudy morning it cleared up a bit 12 delay deport the day at Mrs. Lewis's -Nobody here- Men drawing in barley.</p>

<p>A very cool morning, I went for a drive to Maitland with Andrew I got very cold. Andrew worked in the garden. Allen and little Andrew went to Presett <little Andrew went to the circus in Ogdensburgh.</p>

<p>The hottest day I've have had this year. A litte rain cause up in the morning but search rough to lay the duvet. The men wine over the swamp. Arnold very sick all day.</p>

<p>1879 New years day January 1st Wednesday</p>
<p>A fair morning, I paid out $4.50 to Susan. And Andrew paid $16.75 to a man for clothing 11 1/2 cords wood. In the evening Mrs Wills & family with Miss Bamis & Mrs Henderson M& daughter spent the evening here. Harold brought Lucia home from Prescott Annie came up to stay a few days.</p>
<p><br /> Thursday 2nd</p>
<p>A buy sunny day. Andrew & Allen took a load of hay to Presectt in the forenoon. In the afternoon fixed up the cellar _ no person here.</p>
<p>Friday 3rd</p>
<p>A very stormy day, Andrew and Harold were in the woods till near two o'clock Allen went to Prescott with Dunnie In the evening we all went to Prescott to a very pleasent little party at Bells It snowed very heavily all night and drifted a great deal the Sleighing was very heavy, we got home about 20 minutes to one o'clock</p>

<p>Another sunny day. Andrew and Harold went to the woods all day. Allen came home & brought Russ, Ella & Dunnie with him, he went to Marltand and bought me two postal cards.</p>

<p>A warm day. Harold went to the woods and began boiling sap -- Andrew went to the woods with Harold, the roads are very bad indeed In the afternoon Andrew went to Prescott to bring up Fide -- Annie Henderson went with him --</p>

<p>A fine day but a cold start - Harold went to the woods - James went to Brockville and sold 14 lbs of butter -- I bottled 1 1/2 gallons of Molasses - We have made already 3 1/2 gallons of Molasses and 12 1/2 lbs of sugar. Lucia went over to Emily's in the afternoon</p>

<p>A fine day but very cold for the season - Andrew and Harold went to Church - In the afternoon Annie & Winnie Henderson were here</p>

<p>A fine day - Harold went to the Woods Sol came to help saw -- Bill and Duncans were here for dinner - Annie Henderson drove Lucia to Prescott to take her 20th music lesson they came home to dinner - Annie staid till about three O'clock - No other visitors</p>

<p>A very fine day, Mary Ann went home, Addie & Maria came up to tea, Allen went down with them. Mrs & Miss Irwin called today - Andrew & Harold busy over the swamp, the sap has stopped running. they brought the kettles home</p>

<p>A lovely day. Harold and James took the Saddle back to Henry Morey's Andrew took Lucia to Prescott she took her 22nd Music lesson. In the afternoon Harold worked in the garden. Lucia and I began to clean up the front yard, no callers Carroll 2 years old today, Measures 2 ft 10 1/2 inches in height</p>
<p>Tuesday 22nd</p>
<p>A very fine morning - James began to plough today, the first time this spring. Harold sowed out bed of onions. Lucia and I were busy raking up the front yard. No visitors I have made 6 gallons of Molasses & 32 1/2 lbs of Sugar this year.</p>
<p>Wednesday 23rd</p>
<p>A cloudy morning, rained a little, hope it will rain more to start the grass. Harold went to Maitland and to Mr Lewis's, Mr Lewis gave him some raspberry and gooseberry cuttings, he planted them and his grapvines in the afternoon - Mr & Mrs Lewis called in the afternoon.</p>
<p>Thursday 24th</p>
<p>A fine day. Andrew took Lucia down to her lesson she took her 23rd Lesson - Andrew sold 30 lbs of butter at 15 cts a lb Allen came home Harold worked in the garden</p>

<p>A cloudy day - We finished cleaning the front yard. Harold and Andrew went over the swamp and brought home some ashes & trees - they were away all day - no callers.</p>

<p>Lucia took her 12th Music lesson. A fine growing day - We picked berries at the head of the lane. In the evening two men came and staid all night _ They left a hasp hinges to pay for their nights</p>

<p>A fearfully hot day - Sudan and I picked a lot of berries - It rained very heavily in the afternoon. Andrew got some hay in before the rain No callers today - - - -</p>

<p>A very fine day - Lucia and I went to the swamp and picked about 6 quarts of berries early - Mary Ann, Lucia, Ella and Dunnie spent the day here - Sol came and helped Andrew with his hay - All very busy -</p>

<p>A very fine day - Annie and Ida were here for dinner. I paid them 75 cts the last of their berry money All busy haying - no visitors</p>

<p>A very fine day - Harold mowed hay Lucia and I picked berries in the afternoon - All the rest of the day I was helping to pick the wool - we finished it at tea time No visitors - -</p>

<p>A very hot day - Sol and the boys were here. Andrew built a stack of hay This is Harold's birthday, he is seventeen years old today - Lucia went and took her 15th music lesson - Phoebe took the wool down to her sisters to get carded and spun - I made a cheese today -</p>

<p>A very hot day - Andrew and the boys cut and drew in hay - Mary Ann, Ella and Dunnie came up to tea - they took Lucia home with them to stay a few days Susan and Phoebe picked about 7 qts of berries - Harold very sick this evening</p>

<p>A very fine morning - Harold a little better, he was very sick until about 12 o'clock last night. I made a cheese this morning - Anderw and the men finished cutting hay and drew in some - No visitors - Harold not able to work at all today</p>

<p>A very hot day - the hottest day we have had this summer - Andrew finished haying - all in now except the Marsh hay - got a letter from Miss Howells and {illegible] Mrs Lewis and Ethel Loughley called to see Me about the Picnic - - -</p>

<p>A very fine day - I went down to Prescott, I visite Mary Ann, Fides and Annie Sharpe. Andrew and the boys drew in the Barley from the field by the River. In the evening I made a cake for Lucia to take to the Sunday School picnic - No visitors - - - -</p>

<p>A nice cood day, James went to Brockville and bought sold 29 lbs of butter - Andrew and Harold drew in Oats Edith, Annie & Clara Henderson with Mr Hewitt came over to tea -</p>

<p>A very cold moning - Andrew cocked up barley in the morning, in the afternoon it rained very heavily the heaviest coldest rain we here had this year. Andrew and I took tea in Prescett.</p>

<p>A pouring wet day - None of us went to Church it rained so steadily - Andrew (from over the Swamp was here) It is very colr weateher for this season of the year. there was heavy frost in the back country the night before last.</p>

<p>A very miserable cold day. Andrew went out in the back country and collected part of Mr. Lewis's Salary - No visitors - Andrew no better -</p>

<p>A fine day. The boys and Andrew drew in all the barley - Andrew very sick but working. Lucia took her 19th music lesson - - - - -</p>

<p>A very fine day Andrew very poorly They all went to Church - In the evening Allen, Lucia and I walked up to church Bill called to see Andrew who is a little better. Sols family came over in the evening</p>

<p>A very hot morning and cold afternoon Harold, Lucia, and I went to church. In the afternoon it cleaned off and than was a heavy white frost at night.</p>

<p>A very fine day. I washed in the morning in the afternoon, in the afternoon we began to dry Apples. Bella packed all her things to take to Brantford.</p>
<p>Tuesday 16th</p>
<p>A cloudy cold day. Harold took Bella and the children to Prescott, they went on the train to Tornoto, Emily, Annie, Clara, Winne and Milly all spent the evening here. Harold went to Ogdeusburg and did not get home till late. I went on drying Apples. 3 years today since Mr Jones died</p>
<p>Wednesday 17th</p>
<p>A very windy rainy day, about 5 O'clock this morning a gale came up that blew down the large Willow tree in the front yard, and several other branches. Harold and James fixed up fences and killed a sheep. Andrew and I worked at the Apples all day. Toodie and Foddie called yesterday. No callers.</p>
<p>Thursday 18th</p>
<p>A disagreeable day. One of our cows got sick and died, the best milker we had. I worked at the Apples. Bill called to see Andrew. Harold, Allen and Miss Howells went to the Opera this evening.</p>

<p>A fine cool day. H Andrew, Carroll, and I went to Prescott, I bought a pair of shoes for Carroll and myself. I began to pack Captain Atkinsons butter. Andrew went to Ogdeusburg. No callers.</p>

<p>A fine morning but squally afternoon. I made pumpkin pies and was busy all the morning. In the afternoon Miss Howells, Lucia, baby and myself went to Marcias we got caught in a heavy shower of rain and hail. I got a letter from Bella and a basket of peaches. Ernie came up and staid all night.</p>
<p>Sunday 21st</p>
<p>A lovely day. All the young people went to church. Andrew and I staid at home. Ernie went home in the afternoon. Andrew and I went for a walk. Allen and Lucia went to church in the evening.</p>
<p>Monday 22nd</p>
<p>A very fine day. I washed, and packed butter. In the afternoon Andrew and I went out in the country for a drive. The road was good and the weather lovely so we enjoyed it very much.</p>
<p>Tuesday 23rd</p>
<p>A showery disagreeable day. Andrew went to Prescott. Harold and James cut corn. Andrew paid Lafontaine 60cts for fixing the church. I worked at Apple drying all day.</p>

<p>A very fine day. Andrew Harold and I started on the 8 O'clock train for Ottawa. James ploughed. Mary Ann came over to stay till I get back. We walked the exhibition building about 12 O'clock and saw every thing that was worth went into the city its the evening & got a comfortable bed.</p>

<p>The 18th anniversery of wedding. A lovely day. Harold Andrew and myself visited the Chandiere Falls The Waterworks - The Parliament Buildings and grounds, and of the places of Interest in Ottawa, we took the four O'clock train from the city and arrived in Prescott about 1/2 past eight. Bill brought Maggie home for a visit from the Asylum yeasterday. We got home at a 1/4 to eleven,, found all right at home we were all very tired - -</p>

<p>A lovely day. Baby and I spent the day at Marcias, Andrew picking Apples, and brought home buckwheat from over the swamp.</p>

<p>A fine day. Picked up apples and barrelled them up. Lucia spent the day at Mr Lewis's. Mr Lewis called. I sent Bella's box away - - - -</p>

<p>January 1st, Tuesday. {written in blue pen} Clear cold day, no snow.{written in blue pen} Bills, {Fides?} & {lots?} families spent the day & evening here. Andrew took home {Fides?} family in the evening, did not get home till late. Snow began to fall about ten o'clock P.M.</p>
<p>Wednesday 2nd {written in blue pen} A cold blustering day, the first day that has looked like winter. Will took Susie & Ella home in the buggie. Andrew and the boys here busy all day fixing up around the barns and sheds -- Nothing particular going on.</p>
<p>Thursday 3rd {written in blue pen} A {very?} cold clear day. Thermometer 2 degrees below zero. The boys skated on the river for the first time this winter - No appearance of snow. Thomas came back this evening - Lucia has a bad cold - Andrew took a load of food to the church - nothing particular doing - ( Friday 4th {written in blue pen} A cold snowy day, snow enough full to make pretty good sleighing. Mr. Louks the insurance agent called today, Andrew paid him six dollars. Andrew & Thomas killed the fat cow today - Lucia's cold worse than it was yesterday.</p>

<p>Saturday 5th {written in blue pen} A bright cold day. Thomas & Allen went to Brockville in the double sleigh - Bill and Mary Allen came up to tea - Andrew cut up the Beef - Lilla Hammond called to say that Mr. Lewis was ill, consequently there could be no service in the church tomor-row.</p>
<p>Sunday 6th {written in blue pen} A bitterly cold day. No service in the church today. The thermometer stood at 23 {written above: "14"} degrees below zero this morning just before the sun rose. It is not quite so cold tonight --- Lucia's cold no better -</p>
<p>Munday 7th {written in blue pen} A very cold day. Andrew took Harold & Allen to school in Prescott, they went to board at Fide's at five dollars a week. Bill came to dinner. Thomas went to Brockville. We paid out $11 for the childrens board, school fees, mans wages, and things that Andrew bought in Prescott. Lucia's cold is not much better.</p>
<p>Tuesday 8th {written in blue pen} A fine day, not nearly as cold as it was yesterday, Lucia has been in bed all day, she is very poorly. Andrew and Thomas cleaned up Barley. Will went to Maitland. I finished making candles. Churned today. No callers -</p>

<p>Wednesday 9th {written in blue pen} A very fine day, not cold. Bella & Will went to Precott. George {Robinson?} called & paid Andrew $46 interest money. Bill came to see Lucia who has been sick all day with a low fever. Mr. Laird called but did not stay for tea. I wrote to Mr. {Letee?}.</p>
<p>Thursday 10th {written in blue pen} A very wet day. Thermometer stood 4 degrees' above Freezing - Thomas took two loads of barley down to Mr. McCarthy's brewery. Lucia a little better today - Will went to Maitland. No sleighing. Thomas took barley to McCarthys in the waggon.</p>
<p>Friday 11th {written in blue pen} A very wet disagreeable day, Will went to Prescott and brought home the boys, they were very glad to get home and we were delighted to have them. Bill called to see Lucia, she is a little better. I paid out 5 cents for a spool of thread. No snow yet, Thomas took another load of barley to McCarthy's in the waggon. Will went to Prescott in buggy.</p>
<p>Saturday 12th {written in blue pen} A very warm spring like day. Thomas drew three loads of barley to McCarthy's, he brought home the new cutter. Harold went to Maitland - I got a letter from Mr."{Letee?}. Andrew paid out 15 cents. James {Stan?} came and paid Andrew 18 dollars interest money. Lucia seems a little better this evening - Harold has a bad cold -</p>

<p>A dull rainy day. No snow. Will took the boys to Prescott & brought up Sarah Hurd to stay a few days. I paid out 6 dollars & 85 cents for the boys board and school books. Lucia a good deal better.</p>

<p>A stormy day. Sleighing again. Will went to Maitland and got the cutter fixed. Nothing particular doing - Lucia a little better.</p>

<p>A clean frosty day. Thomas finished drawing the barley. Andrew paid out 11 dollars & 20 cents for oats - Sarah Hurd been sick all day with headache - Caroll very sick all day with a very bad cold -</p>

<p>Another bright day, Andrew & Sarah went to Prescott. The boys came home from school - Andrew sent Bob a draft of a hundred dollars today, and paid 45 dollars for a new cutter. Andrew got sugar and tea and a few other things in Prescott for which he paid eleven dollars and 91 cents - Bella sick with a severe cold - Lucia and Baby better -.</p>
<p>Saturday 19th {written in blue pen}</p>
<p>A lovely warm day, sleighing all gone. Will and the boys went to Brockville - Bill and Dennie came here to tea. Paid out for Sole and coffee in Brockville & Allen's paid 6 dollars. Began to use the new sugar that Andrew got yesterday - Thomas took a load of hay down to Bill's Bella still sick with cold - Andrew & Will spent eve {. ey is written above eve} at Soloman's Hendersons.</p>

<p>A very warm day. Andrew, Allen, Will, and myself went to church - Harold laid up with a sore foot - Bella a little better - Lucia was not for a few minutes.</p>

<p>A warm wet day - Andrew in the woods all day. Will and I took Baby {Durham} and went out to see Maria for a few days minutes. Bella's cold still very bad. Barrie and Marie Henderson called -</p>

Bill came up and stayed all night - Annie, Andrew, and William came up in the evening- Sol {Soloman} was in for a minute - Will took the boys to school - I paid out 6 dollars for their board - Andrew heard from {illegible due to the photo quality} he sent him 31 dollars interest money -.</p>

<p>Another windy disagreeable day - Andrew and the Nurse went to Prescott in afternoon - Will sent to Maitland - Baby {Durham} not so well - The boys stared for a school concert, Harold got 3 new books for a prize - Bob George, Wife and 2 children came quite unexpectedly this evening about nine O'clock - Andrew went to their concert - I paid out 53 cents at Hardings and 35 cts for Concert money.</p>

<p>Thursday 12th</p>
<p>A stormy fine day, Andrew went to Maitland with wood for the Church and paid the taxes which came to $72, 96 cts, Harold staid in Prescott all night - I got a letters from Lucia - Callie and Bella and WIll</p>
<p>Friday 13</p>
<p>A cold day but clear Andrew took (bus?) to Brockville this morning - I got a lot of things for Xmas and the house - I posted a letter to Clara. Harold came home for the holidays.</p>
<p>Saturday 14th</p>
<p>A fine day not as cold as yesterday - Andrew went to Brockville with potatoes - the boys did the chores and went skating - nobody here.</p>

<p>A fine day, not very cold. I went to help with the {trimming? treeing?} of the church with Emily - Bill called for a minute - Carroll quite sick with a cold - Harold went over to Emily's in the evening -</p>

<p>A fine day, Andrew went to Brockville to the Mill - Mary Anne called for a few minutes - Annie Henderson came over - Allen came home for the holidays - I worked at a dress all day - paid out $1.15 cts - - - - -</p>

<p>A fine day but cold, Andrew and Harold spent the day in the woods and brought home a load of woods {out night?} - Clara Henderson brought me a letter from Lucia -</p>
<p>Friday 20th</p>
<p>A fine day. Andrew and Allen went to the woods, Harold went to Maitland and brought home Lucia We were all glad to have her home. She is looking better - Bella sent me some nice presents from Toronto.</p>
<p>Saturday 21st A cold disagreeable day, about noon it began to snow and snowed heavily all night - Andrew brought home a load of {ink blotch} wood. I cleaned and made custard for x mas -</p>
<p>Sunday 22nd</p>
<p>A very cold day. Andrew, Harold, and I went to church in the double sleigh, the snow is quite deep - the first time we have had enough of snow for sleighing - Andrew and William took dinner here - Allen went over to Emily's in the afternoon -</p>

<p>A very cold day - Harold went to Prescott and brought up Ernie Andrew and I went to Brockville in the afternoon - I got a {hole?} from Will and a letter from Mary with the likenesses of her little children and herself and Sam in it - In the evening Andrew, Fannie, Allen, Harold, and Ernie, went to church.</p>
<p>Wednesday 25th</p>
<p>Christmas day.</p>
<p>A cold stormy day. Harold and Andrew went to Prescott and brought up all of Bill's family and Fide's family to spend the day and evening - Sol {Soloman} and his children with Annie Sharpe and the here Miss Henderson's were here also, the young folks danced and enjoyed themselves with a late home - They all staid all night excepting Sols family and Hendersons -</p>
<p>Thursday 26.</p>
<p>A cold day - All our guests went away today. I was very {tell?} after dinner getting the house fired up - Harold went to Prescott and staid all day.</p>

<p>Harold and Andrew cleaned the pipes, Annie Jones came over and got a dollar and a half from me of Ms. {Gowy?}, there is now only 8 dollars remaining in Andrew's hands of his money. Harold went to Prescottand brought Allen home Andrew took a load of wood to the Church. I sent money to Toronto for the "Weekly Mail". In the evening Harold, Allen, Lucia and myself spent the evening at Fides - Lucia staid all night we got home about 1 am. - - - - - -</p>
<p>Tuesday 31st</p>
<p>A cold stormy day. Andrew and Mr. Collins {The 'r' in 'Mr' is elevated and quotations are written underneath} went out collecting Ministers salary.
