Thur 29. started to snow just as Paul started to his work & kept getting worse pouring at times snowing at times & hailing & at night a thunder storm & so cold & just poured rain. The youngsters stayed home in the afternoon the storm was so bad from the east we had to keep the hens shut up all day & the cows. had the little brown hen

Friday 30 bright sunshine all day untill near the time Paul came home when it got dark & thundered but did not amount to much. Marjorie baked a big bakeing yesterday & I made a custard pie & patty pan cakes today. Marjorie went in the cart to Chippewa had 3½ doz eggs @ 18. sugar 25 tea 15 paid 14 for me on Bromogumme & I paid 11 cts on the sugar I got 2 qts coal oil 9 Paul quit the railroad today. Arthur collecting for the church. Hattie came home from the Falls. Sat.

May 1909

Sat 1. sunshine part of the time & rained a little towards night & at bed time snowing for alls its worth. poor little Blue died. taken sick night befor last & suffered all that night, & all day yesterday poor little kitt. Paul spent the day in Chippewa. Gordon spent the most of the day at Riexingers. Hattie came in from Riexingers where she was collecting for the church. I swept & cleaned the floor & made 3 pumkin pies. They sent part of a pumkin over, poor little Beebe sick tonight;

Sun 2. Quarterly meeting at Crowland terrible stormy day snowing & blowing sometimes the snow comes so fast you cannot see to the road when the sun would come out for a few minutes. wind cold & from the west. Paul to dinner to Riexingers Hattie over in the evening giveing the children their Sunday school lesson Marguerite over here to tea.

Mon 3. The turkey laid her first egg. cold west wind but sunshine & rain about noon or near Paul fixed the currant bushes at least took the dead ones out fixed the fence & fate, & made a hog yard with rails Arthur started him on it. Marjorie working on her wrapper, & I finished my grey skirt. poor Beebe is sick yet. Will & Arthur carried their potatoes out of the cellar.

Teu 4. bright sunshine bur froze ice over the tub last night cold west wind ground terrible wet Hattie gone in the cart to Port to take the ministers money as she did not get up to Crowland yesterday as it was stormy about the time she ought to go. Arthur going after dinner with Gonders oats he bought 25 lbs bran for us at the mill Riexinger girls came down with the pictures Leslie Young around after a girl. had a beautiful pumkin pie for supper

Wed 5 Marjorie worked a big washing washed two shirts & an apron for me. Mrs Riex here for supper. I churned & made cake for supper & churned. Peter DeWitt bought the calves 15 for the red one 14 for the spotted one. bought Wills two calves Paul away fishing with Allens net - caught a mess of mixed fish & a Carp. I cooked the Carp for dinner Hattie & her mother went to Chippewa got tea ½ lb sugar, soda nails

Thur 6 Arthur & Hattie went to Welland after corn but it was too high 90 cts. he got middlings for the sow. they got their Lineoleum for their kitchen they went out to Sharps for dinner when they were comeing home they nearly got caught in a storm the wind was east & the storm came from the north & west. stoped long enough to get the dishes washed then started & lasted untill after 11 Arthur was over untill the storm was over. the rain just poured. It was today I got the jars packed & sink out

Friday 7. Wills sow had 11 pigs lost one she is very sick I cleaned the big box in the wood house & packed the jars after I washed most of them got a lot got a lot of trash out of the wood house got the sink out today I papered the cupboard & the corner by it & one side done. Marjorie baked bread yesterday she worked on her wrapper. Paul patched the roof this afternoon.
