Note to reader: The Rural Diary Archive originally received copies of this diary courtesy of
the Leeds & Grenville Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. A dedicated transcriber
later consulted the original diaries in the Walter Beatty fonds at Queen’s University
Archives, Kingston, Ontario, to locate missing entries. Transcriptions of those missing
entries have been added to this transcript. Images of the handwritten version of the
missing pages are not available on the Rural Diary Archive.
{This title page is not actually from the original diary. It is a modern marker page from
reproduced photocopies of William Beatty's diary. Walter was his son, who kept the diaries
for safekeeping. Thus, the diaries have become known as Walter Beatty diaries, when in fact
they are the work of his father, William.}
