much but sit around the house and read. Late this after noon Harry B. and I went for a little walk as Dorrie found me a pair of overshoes that fit me and we got a pair of rubbers for Harry B at the store. We went up to Laking's saw mill and saw them making shingles. I also gathered up some baskets and took them down to the station and expressed them to Dover. Seems milder to-night but still snowing.
Tuesday October 19th
We got up about 4.30 this morning had breakfast & then trudged through hard frozen snow to catch the six o'clock train. Dorrie went to the station with us and had Mr. Keefer call and take our trunks down on the mail barrow. It might have been a January morning by the feel of it. We have spent a long and tiresome day on the train, saw the sun rise and set from the car windows. The woods with the snow on them though were lovely. The snow disappeared by the time we got to Linsay, and it was quite pleasant in Toronto where we had lunch. Marj. & the kids didn't leave the station there but I walked a little way up Yonge St. and got a record for George and a tie for Frank's birthday. We left Toronto about two o'clock and had to go all the way to Woodstock where we caught the night train for Dover, arriving here about seven o'clock. The kids got pretty tired but were good. Frank met us at the station with a car he has rented for a short time and we stayed at Auntie's all night.
Wednesday October 20th
It rained nearly all day except for a snow storm this after noon so Marj. didn't come over to the farm. I came over first thing this morning but haven't done much all day except help get the Quebec heater up in the dining room. George and I went down to Auntie's to-night.
Thursday October 21st
Frank brought Marj. over in the car this morning and George took us both on out home where Marj. got some bedding and inspected the work done. The boys have the floors all laid. George drove me out again this after noon and I varnished one bedroom floor but the varnish didn't work properly on account of the cold. George and Frank brought the kids over this after noon so here we are at the Farm which is Bachelor's paradise no longer.
