Tuesday June 10th 1879
the weary days pss on,and no sign of material
improvement. instead of processing I am now
retrograding and becoming more nervous and weak.
weather far from being summer.nights cool. crops grow
but slowly,and now I fear there willbe a great shortage
in wheat,which seems very backward. "the pricess & marquis"
have had their day and the scene has passed.they got a right royal
reception,at least in the Limestone city. Sir Lorne was prudent
enough to revive again the dream of kingston becoming the capital.
we know not,when the far west becomes settled, it may be necessary
to organize standard districts, centralizing the nucleus of old
association, a garrison town,and located on an inland sea,
right on the through line both rail and water.
can our federal union exist as it is for 50 years longer?
one thing is certain. Ontario is the keystone of the structure,
if she remain true to herself, she will have a powerful
hand in drawing the 'cement' closer
