in the present building programme, and the Japs British and Americans are building some ships which surpass anything yet planned in the way of deadly destructiveness. It seems to me that the most hopeful sign is fact that all the strongest nations are going to meet at one table and appear to have a desire for peace while I don't believe public sentiments were ever quite so much aroused and popular opinion more decidely opposed to preparations for war.

Saturday November 12th

Dad and I put the snow fences up around the stack this morning. Five of them didn't quite reach all the way around so Dad. made a short panel out of slabs and put in. If the cattle dont break them they should be plenty of protection and enable us to save the straw for most of the winter. This after noon I didn't do any thing much except chase the colts out of the orchard. They seem possessed to get in to some sort of mischief Dad. spent most of the after noon fixing the fence they broke between the horse stable and the barn. Marj. Enah & Tid walked down town this after noon. I went down to the Tuxis boys meeting to night and Oliver announced an impromptu debate. They chose the resolution that steel ships were better than wood and argued at great length on the subject finally winding up with a tie. Mild day but freezing hard to-night.

Sunday November 13th

It froze very hard last night but wa sa lovely morning. It soon cloude dup and has been raw all day. To-night the wind ha smoved around to the south and is much softer but is still raw We all went down to church this morning & Marj. Tod and I went tot Sunday schiool. marj & I came home for dinner, the ithers staying down at Auntys The Miss hardings are down there and Aunty Alice thought it wouldmbe Dad's last chance to see them before they went west. I soent thre whole after noon doing chores. Pickford was over this after noon and again later when Dad. was home. His mare has a touch of lymphangitis and he wanted to ask Dad. about her. Enah stayed down to tea to-night and Jack Walker brought her home after church. Mark was in to-night.
