I did up the chores this morning, got in a supply of corn stalks and cleaned all the old rotten mangels and pumpkins out of the cellar. As it was such a beautiful day, I thought I would go down this after noon and get my hair cut so we all went but didn't get started very early. Marj. & the children waited for me at Aunty's while I went up town. {Jnir?} Morris's shop was full of girls but Bob Loney's was not so bad so I got through by half past five, but it made us late getting home. Lila was being kept very quiet to-day so they had to keep the kids in the kitchen till Dick came home and wanted to have a bath and then he occupied the kitchen. He & Quint, Ada, Alan & Zeitha were going to a party at the Freeman's

I have been lately getting up at five o'clock in order to see that the fire is all right and to get a chance to look at the paper and write this while the house is quiet and I can keep awake, a thing that seems impossible after tea. This morning I was tired and Marj. kindly shut off the alarm clock so that I stayed in bed till six when I had to get up and dress the Niblits. I

discouraging for her that she went to bed. She was tired out any way. It looks to me as if the fat that is in the jars would hermetically seal them, so that I don't see why it should matter if a little {cordial?} got in at the top. She had 11 pints of it. This after noon I cleaned out the pullets pen and put some fresh straw in and I cleaned out the old hen's pen after tea. It is so beautifully moon light, that it is really the best time to do it as it doesn't disturb the hens. Now that I have such nice straw on hand I didn't want to lose any time cleaning them out as they needed it. Harry B. was out all the after noon helping me. Harry Blake was in this after noon and left our assessment at $1000. Beautiful day, sunny and very mild.
