As we wanted to have an early dinner and go to town this after noon I didn't do much this fore noon but chores We went to town in the buggy and it was a tight squeeze for all of us to get in and felt very uncomfortable after the roomy cutter. We took the egg crate and Harry B sat on it. I thought may be Dad. would want to get a load of silage this after noon but we saw him down town and he said to let it go till to-morrow, so we just stayed at Aunty's for awhile after getting our groceries. Dad. was down with a letter he had just received <s>from</s> in answer to the one he wrote concerning the "fortune". The letter to-day is perplexing & promising. It is from a firm of lawyers who say they have for many years been and still are the solicitors to the trustees of a fund to which they say they can help Dad. formulate and possibly prove a claim. They ask him to answer a good many questions concerning names, {there is a small multiplication sum written above this top line} dates of births & marriages & deaths of different members of the family and then the perplexing part of their letter is when they say "If you were born before a certain day in March 1858." Dad wasn't born till 1864 so we are trying to figure out just what difference that will make or how much depends on it. South west wind and very mild all day.

It started to rain before day light this morning and has kept it up pretty much all day. It has taken nearly all the snow off except where there were very deep drifts and to-night the gully is running full and the water is going over the road by Dave's gate I went over this forenoon and swept out the school house and sat around over there for awhile reading a bulletin on protecting birds. This after noon I painted the north door in the dining room and puttied up a lot of nail holes in the woodwork. Quite mild.
