see no mention made of Bedford so suppose Roy & his family were not so near the devastated area which seems to have been a very narrow strip. I didn't do much but chores this forenoon and went over to the Lampkin's for a little while this after noon. I drove down town quite late in the afternoon and went to see Marj. for a short time and then went over to Billy Lang's shop and got a bag of oat chop from Jack who is at the shop every night after five.

Friday March 20th

As it was frozen this morning I thought I could get out a few more loads of manure but the sun soon got up strong and although I got two loads out the ground was too soft and the waggon cut in badly so I quit. I heard an engine going over in Willie Shand's woods so walked over to investigate and found Willie Shand, Will Cruise, Tom Aiken & Tom Stone doing a great business sawing wood with the saw frame outfit that Willie Shand & Will Cruise bought from Frank Shearer for fifty dollars. The two Willies were running the machine and the Tom's were skidding the logs. Willie was as delighted as a kid with a new toy and thinks the machine will soon pay for itself in the time it will save. Possibly so, but it appears to me that if he and Tom had spent the time it has taken to get the thing hauled into place and rigged up sawing wood they would have their wood all out by now, however Willie is getting a lot of fun out of it so I suppose it is all right. I cleaned out the colony house this after noon and tinkered around, but didn't go down town. The last two Fridays seem to testify to the truth of the proverb " Friday fairest or foulest." Last Friday was the worst day of the week and to day has been a beautiful day and I think easily the finest day.

Saturday March 21st

It was very cloudy this morning and looked so threatening that I decided to go so when town before dinner and then I thought I would have more time to see Marj. I got sworn about eleven and took the eggs up town and got what gropvceries we needed.
