It lasted most of the afternoon. Young Jones was there and asked me to paint his name on his new truck. Dad. has had the most exciting news yet from the English lawyers. They are sending a man out to dig up the necessary information and instructed Dad. to cable them when he would meet their man whose name is Mr. Parks. Dad. cabled that he would meet him at Port Dover. They also said that the reason they asked whether Dad was born before 1858 was that it made the difference whether he would recieve a life interest or the capital sum which was a considerable ammount. Mr. Freeman to whom they showed the letter and asked for advice regarding the cable said that a "considerable ammount" to those people meant vastly more than it did to us and predicted that it would not be less than $200,000. That of course though is mere conjecture. The whole affair is beginning to make me feel queer. If it should come to nothing now, we are all going to be terribly disappointed, on the other hand I feel as though it is going to be a serious matter for us if immense wealth is suddenly dropped into our laps. It would be a great responsibility besides making us odiously notorious, and altogether change the whole course of our lives which in spite of financial pinches have for the most part been tranquil & happy ones.
