nearly a bushel of the potatoes we had in the cellar and which I think Jim. Dixon said were Green Mountain and I planted them. I hoed the first ones that I planted in but the ones I put in this after noon I ploughed in and then gave them a good harrowing. I went down to-night to Aunty's and copied out a letter and signed it for Mr. Parks which was to authorize Arnold & Henry White to act in my interest in the Quintin Dick Trust case. Lord Cloncurry versus Fenton and to say that I was the eldest son of W.H. Barrett's heir of Mary Dick and that I was agreeable to any thing Mr. Walter F. Parks said or did. It seems that this Fenton who is solicitor for the other hopeful heirs is also a beneficiary under the will and agent for the Irish properties, succeeding his father in that capacity. Mr. Parks says he is an Irishman & a fighter & may cause trouble, but thinks when he shows him how strong Dad's claim is, and proposes to him that he can still retain the agency for the Irish business if he doesn't cause trouble, he will not show opposition. I went up town and got a lot of garden seeds at Reynolds and then came back to Aunty's and had ice cream, this being Mr. Park's last night here. Miss. Greenor the typist they had was there too so we had quite a party. All were down from home.

Thursday May 14th

I spent most of the day putting in the garden out this side of the young orchard. I sowed my experimental plots of mangolds first and then drilled in the other seeds with Charlie Quanbury's seed drill which I have had since last year. I also planted corn & beans and dug and set out over a hundred strawberry plants. Cooler.

Friday May 15th

This morning I dug about 250 more strawberry plants and it took awhile as the ground was very hard and dry. I didn't get them all set out before noon so covered them up in the shade and this after noon we all went down town to do our trading and Marj. went to the doctor's to ask him a few things about the children.We were for some time at Aunty's. Quint and Mr. Parks left last night for Montreal and Aunty & Aunty Alice have been busy ever since trying to get the smell of tobacco smoke out of the house. Mr. Parks found out from the postmaster at Sorel that he could get the birth certificate of Uncle Massey Uncle Tom and Aunt Louisa from there so he had them sent to the Windsor Hotel in Montreal. He is going to Huntingdon to get an affadavit from Cousin Lizzie Hyde and from there
