Dad. finished cutting the meadow along the side road and raked up what was cut. Frank felt well enough to cock up this after noon. Marj. Gay & the baby went over to Mrs. Lampkin's for dinner. Quint brought a sign over for me to fix up for him, he says he is embroiled in a price cutting war with Ben Ivey et al and has issued an ultimatum to them which if they don't accept he will cut prices himself to such an extent as to wreck things. David came over to the farm to-day with Dr. Cook, he is to stay there till after the arrival of his sister which is scheduled for any day now. Dad. had two long letters from Mr. Parks to-day saying that everything was still satisfactory and enclosing a letter written by Hugh Massey Barrett to Quintin Dick in 1842 in which he stated that his three eldest sons had served in the Rebellion of '37 & '38. This letter was in the possession of Lord Long and Mr. Parks said that the fact that he had not handed it in before would go against him with the judge. The signature on this letter corresponded exactly with exhibit 6 in E.L.B's affadavit. Partly cloudy and very much cooler. North west wind. |

| + | I went over home again to-day. Dad. finished raking what he cut yesterday and <s>Dad</s> & Frank and I cocked up and got it nearly up by noon. This after noon Frank who seems to feel none the worse for his labour of yesterday finished cocking and Dad. & I hauled in the hay north of the old garden. There were not quite 2 loads. Harry B. was over playing with David all day. Tim looks after them and apparently enjoys their company very much and they are very good with him. Jack King came after Dad. to-day to ask him to be a bearer at Miss Shand's funeral. Fine with cool west breeze | ||

after Mr. Parks told him that Dad. would continue to engage him at a liberal salary provided he acted decently now. Mr. Parks also tactfully intimated to the solicitors for the rest of the bunch that it would be well worth their while not to kick up any rumpus.
