Thursday Friday July 17th

I cultivated my potatoes first thing this morning and then Harry B and I went over home where I cocked hay all day. Dad. finished cutting the meadow along the side road and raked up what was cut. Frank felt well enough to cock up this after noon. Marj. Gay & the baby went over to Mrs. Lampkin's for dinner. Quint brought a sign over for me to fix up for him, he says he is embroiled in a price cutting war with Ben Ivey et al and has issued an ultimatum to them which if they don't accept he will cut prices himself to such an extent as to wreck things. David came over to the farm to-day with Dr. Cook, he is to stay there till after the arrival of his sister which is scheduled for any day now. Dad. had two long letters from Mr. Parks to-day

saying that everything was still satisfactory and enclosing a letter written by High Masssey Barrett to Quintin Dick in 1842 in which he stated that his then eldest sons had served in the Rebellion of '37 & '38. This letter was in the possession of Lord Long and Mr. parks said that the fact that he ahd not handed it in before would go against him with the judge. The signature on this letter corresponded exactly with exhibit 6 in E.L.B's affadavit. Partly cloudy and bery much cooler. North west wind.
