I was just getting ready to drive over home this morning to see what they were going to do when Frank came over to get me to thrash at Pickford's in Dad's place as he had to go down and have a tooth out, he said the machine had not moved up from Sam's yet so as I had promised Harry B. he could go with me I drove over home and then into Pickford's to see if he knew when the machine would be there and told him to have them whistle as soon as they arrived. I then came back home with Harry B. but as I came out of Pickford's lane I saw Sam & Alan at the top of Art's hill so I put Queen out and walked right back to Pickford's. They had started to thrash when I got back. I helped Frank & Bob bag up the grain and carry it to the granary. Billy Mills also helped when he arrived. The oats down in the now were pretty hot and we dumped them into all the bins & barrels around the place so as not to have too big a pile in one place and we bagged some of them up. I stayed for about an hour after dinner and then Dad. came over so I came home and started in early to do chores and prepare for the Carnival which was postponed till to-night. Wednesday August 12th
We all went down town this morning for Marj. to get her week's groceries. She thought Ina was coming and intended leaving Gay & the baby here with her but as she didn't show up we had to take the whole family with us. This after noon I cut the grass around the front of the house with the scythe and did the chores up early so as to get down to the carnival in good time but about four o'clock it began to drizzle and kept up with increasing force till far into the night so that all thought of carnival had to be abandoned. They made great preparations for it. Harry Moon and his gang were working tooth & nail this morning when we were down putting up a decorated stage and various booths and festoons but the rain was expected as there was an east wind all day.
