quite seriously that I was a good judge of beauty or had been when I was married but if I would excuse him saying so it was more than my wife was, to which I heartily agreed. He is the limit. Dad. and I hauled the alfalfa in three jags & a lift but there wasn't more than two loads of it so maybe a good big load & a half, some of it wasn't fit to come in it was so green & tough but I thought it might better go in now than chance more rain on it. Dad. walked home and I drove down to-night to band practice. They are terribly upset down home over the news that came to-day that Mr. Millman is dead. He went up to Mitchell on Saturday alone on some business and was staying over Sunday with some friends up there. Sunday night while he was talking to them, he complained of a pain in his heart and died in a very few minutes. It is a terrible shock to us all and must be awful for Mrs. Millman. Still fine & warm.

Tuesday August 25th

I took the rack over home this morning and we got in 3 loads of oats from the back field. Dad. & Frank were down at the mill with some wheat when I got over there as it was too wet to do anything at the oats till about ten o'clock. I had to quit early as I went with the band to-night up to the Kiwanis kids camp, and played for them for an hour. Quint was over at noon to make arrangements with Dad. to go to Mr. Millman's funeral to-morrow. I walked home to-night from the back field and walked back to town and from the farm home again.

Wednesday August 26th

It looked so threatening and sprinkled a little that I didn't go over home till about ten o'clock and Frank was just coming into the back field when I got there. He had picked Elgie Cole up on the road so he helped us all day as Dad. left with Quint this morning on the nine car for Toronto. We just got in one load in before dinner but I helped them get two in and off this afternoon and they went back for another when I came home to get ready to go on the Colonial for the band's excursion. When i got home Marj. said Charlie Shand ha dcome down and brought some tiuckets and said he would take her so i thought it wa too good a chance for her to miss having an outing and I staye home with the kids and she went woth them.
