Sunday August 30th

It has been very hot and oppressive to-day and we have done very little but sit around. We just worked in two meals. I went out to the garden this morning and picked some cucumbers and dug some potatoes while Marj. was busy in the house. Late this after noon Harry B. and I walked over to see how poor old Mr. Lampkin was feeling. He is still very stiff and sore but thought he was better

Monday August 31st

I spent the whole day cleaning up the strawberry patch and then got very little more than a row cleaned as it is a slow job. Gibson was in this morning to renew my fire insurance policy. Mabel & her aunt were in late this after noon to see Marj. School starts again to-morrow. I have been working up a cold all day and feel like a boiled cabbage to-night. Hot

Tuesday September 1st

I have done a great deal of nothing to-day as I felt so tough with my cold. I went out and started to hoe strawberries this morning but the bending over seemed to make me sneeze, which I did to such an extent that I got dizzy. I lay around and slept most of the time but picked about a bushel & a half of crab apples. The tree is loaded this year and they are excellent quality sound & clean, all the fruit seems to be this year. Frank came over with his tractor and tried to plough the side hill by the school house but the summer grass balled up so on his skimmers that he couldn't do it. He ploughed the garden strip south of the house. Ina's "folks" called for her to-night on their way home from thrashing at Tom's and they told us that word had come this morning that the "Colonial" had burned to the water's edge at Crystal Beach and that there had been some fatalities. Beautiful day.
