Thursday October 8th

I made an attempt this morning to patch the north side of the barn roof which has some very bad holes in it I got some of the worst covered up but couldn't make a very good job as I couldn't sit on the roof without sliding I had a rope over the peak and snubbed to a post but as I had to take one hand to hold it I couldn't do much with the other alone. Right after dinner I drove Aunty Alice {do}wn town, as Mrs. Skey had issued her an invitation to {a} bridge party and she didn't dare refuse. I got some {co}al oil and flour and stopped in at the farm to see {if} they had any word yet of Shoff & his corn binder but {they} hadn't. I put the cows in when I got home and then {got} ready to go down with Marj. to see the collection of {pi}ctures and have tea in the hall. I got my new suit from Fisher this afternoon. Mabel called for us after four and took us and her Aunt down and Aunty stayed here with the children. We had a very nice tea and the pictures were good but most of them were in a poor light. We got home about half past eight {or} nine and Mabel & Mrs. Walker came on for awhile Aunty said the children had been very good and the baby slept till after they left. Sid told me to-day {that} Norman Holden had the Customs Office.
