January 1st 1926

We were very late getting up this morning and before we were through breakfast Davy came over on horseback to inform us that we would have to drive over there for dinner as the walking was bad. We had no intention of trying to walk, but I suppose Davy thought we needed the advice.It was noon before we got all the inside & outside chores done and the kids and ourselves dressed and packed into the cutter, but as Mrs. Lampkin didn't put the potatoes on until she should see a drive out of our lane and as she didn't see us until we drove up to her door we didn't keep dinner waiting. We has as usual a bang up and very rich dinner of pork backbone and followed by plum pudding and mince pie I got as far as the pudding but couldn't get around the pie much to Mrs. Lampkin's & Davy's distress. We sat around all the after noon and conversed as usual on neighborhood gossip which at present seems rather lacking in startling items. Davy, also as usual reviewed the history of his western exploits at Pilot Mound, Manitoby. We came home about five. We had no voting in the township to-day as the reeve & council all went in by acclaimation. Roy Misner reeve. Wess Boughner, deputy, Bob. Austin, Will Smith and I forget the other as I didn't know him. Very mild all day. Thawing.

Saturday January 2nd

I went over home this morning as soon as I could get around to it, to get a load of straw. I found the sleighing was about gone, especially on the side road where the new gravel is. We had to change the rack from the waggon to the sleighs and Dad. wanted to go down and get his cutter which Frank Taylor has been repairing for him before we took the box on the sleigh so it was nearly noon when we got back but we put on a small jag of straw all we thought we could haul over the nearly bare roads. Dick was over at the farm for dinner and we sat around for awhile waiting for Dave Ward to come with the mail but as he was so late we didn't wait till he did come but Frank and I came out here with the straw. When we got it off Marj. decided she would go back with us for the sake of the airing so bundled the kids up and loaded them on the rack. Tim came out with us so there was a grown-up to hold each young one & I was free to drive.

Quint came out just as we starting with the rafters for the wood shed. He put them on alone while we were goen. It was nearly dark when we got back in the cutter and Quint wantedme to go back with him till he got past the deep snow between the top of the Widing Hill and Tupper's
