Thursday January 14th

I cleaned the straw out of the big chicken house this morning and put fresh in. I didn't have enough straw to put in both pens. This after noon after I let the cows & horses down to the creek for water I got the paper and came in to the house and read it for about an hour and then went over to Charlie Munroe's after butter As we are not sending cream now he didn't leave us any butter. Marj. cut out and made herself a dress this afternoon out of an old one of Alie Buckwell's and this evening she made an apron for herself. Shes a hoosler when she gets a'goin". She set bread to-night after having had two failures due to cold sponge or bad yeast cakes we don't know what. I got one egg to-day and one on Tuesday the first we have had for two or three weeks. Very blizzardy not cold.

Friday January 15th

Harry B and I drove over home this morning as I had arranged with Frank to go after hay but when I got out on the road I decided the sleighing was too bad. The snow was softer than it has been but packed so hard where it had drifted that trail breaking with a load would be hard pulling and in other places the road is bare. My lane too will have to be dug out before we can come through it with a load. I had to drive out on the wheat to get through with the cutter. Frank and I drove down town to get some groceries for Enah and I got my egg crate which has been at the Custom House for about a month much to the indignation of Norman Holden. It was nearly noon when we got back to the farm and I was going to come right home but Harry B had helped Gran make a pudding and they wanted him to stay and as there was quite a young blizzard scampering in the region of the side road, we stayed and after dinner Dad. cut Harry B's hair. It improved his looks and I knew it would appease Marj's wrath if necessary because we told her we would be right back if we didn't go for hay. She said she didn't expect us back and although she had a headache she was in high spirits over the success of her baking, which was equal to any of her past triumphs in the art. She has only had about three failures so when two of them came hand running, she was naturally downcast and afraid that her hand had lost its cunning. I didn't do much the remainder of the after noon but sit around and read the paper and wash the dishes for Marj. The result of the division in the House on Meighan's lack of confidence amendment was 123 against & 120 for so the Progressives have saved the Government's scalp for the time being by 3 votes.
