Tom. Stones at 2 o'clock last night each with a bundle of clothes for them. We went down town this after noon as Marj. had to go to the dentist's. Aunty & Aunty Alice gave us a big bundle of good things for the Dove's, which I took over to-night when we got home. I met Ina on the road on her way home from Nina's and she told me that she & Mrs. Harvey Evans had been sewing all the after noon at the things that had been sent and were getting the family pretty well clothed. Just after I got there Fred Misener & Albert Gurney came in from a collecting tour with a whole buggy load of clothes and provisions & $36.00 in cash. Tom Stone & Willie Shand had collected a lot more stuff and cash. Charlie Shand was also out and Les Mitchell & someone else on the back road. I met Bill Donald & Lloyd Ryerse who had been at a sale west of Simcoe & Bill had been telling the story up there but as they were all strangers he only got about three dollars. He is going to Simcoe to-morrow however as it is dollar day for the sole purpose of collecting. They were not going to say anything about it to the Dove's but Fred Misener "blatted" as Nina said all out to Edward this morning and I heard him telling them all as they sat around Nina's tea table to-night that he thought "He & Albert done pretty good they got $36.00 but Willie & Tom beat us they got $38.00 "Albert Gurney" he said " has been out collecting all the after noon and he give five dollars. He says that little affair last fall" meaning the time Albert had Dove arrested for assault "is all forgot now." If Fred's brains were as active as his mouth he'd be a wonderful man. Fine day and not so cold.

Wednesday March 17th

Marj. didn't feel very well to-day so i didn't sdo much but help her a littlein the house. Bertie 7 Norman Dovecame hetre for dinner. Ina told me last night that tey had them rigged out wellenough to go to school so i told Nina to send them here fir their dinner and sav ehersdelf the trouble of putting p lunches for them. I cleane dout the colony house this after noon and to-nigjht put the two black hens & the leghorn hen in there so that i can save the other eggs for Chris. Mr. Cornish was in here for. afew minutes. He ahd been out to the Dove's with some new clothes. Cousin Willie sent out $25.00 to them a and a note of sympathy telling how well he could feel forr them having had the same experience. Much milder to-day. It begins to feel like Spring at last.
