were the first ones there with a horse so I got Queen in the barn and didn't have to unhook her. We were surprised at the number that turned out as we thought we were the only ones foolish enough to venture out on such a night but most of the others walked, although Mrs. Hammonds mother & brother were there from way back at Wiggin's. I didn't see anything of Marj. for an hour or two after we arrived as she was in the front part of the house with the ladies while I found myself herded with the male element in the kitchen, finally however, Less. Marr. got his fiddle out, they moved the piano out to the kitchen & waxed the floor so then we started to dance. I only had a couple of square dances and then went into the other room where Marj. handed me the baby, who was having a whale of a time, and I spent most of the remainder of the time with her although Ina took her for awhile. Marj. & Charlie Butler kept the floor hot. About midnight they had refreshments and Dick & Rose who were married some time during the day opened their shower gifts, which were numerous and useful and with which they were delighted. After that ceremony all hands as well as feet went at the dancing again but my partner like most of the other youthful guests went to sleep and I held her in my arms for a long time, after awhile she woke up still as cheerful as ever and stayed awake till we came home. From time to time during the night some one would look out at the weather and report that it was still pouring down so no one cared much to venture forth and Orph Ryerse who was there with the whole family kept saying she would like to stay till daylight, but about four Roy came in and announced that it had stopped raining and was beginning to freeze which quickly broke up the party. When I went out to the barn for Queen it was pouring rain, but it didn't rain so hard going home. it was just four when we got home and Marj. gave the baby a bottle and she went right to sleep.
