I went back with Dad. & brought Queen home. Dad. didn't have a bite to eat as he said he couldn't eat with his teeth out anyway I had a couple of sandwichs. I walked back to band practice to-night. Mid. has to be away for awhile now settling up Minnie's affairs so they propose getting Ernie {Knight?} down for leader if he will come. There have been a chapter of sad happenings lately. Tom Reynold's little 3 year old daughter sat in a pail of scalding water & was so badly burned that she died. Alan Law's sister died of heart failure leaving five children and to-day word came that Holbe's daughter who was married last fall, her husband and a friend were killed when a train struck their car. Sunny but bitter north wind all day Freezing to-night.

Monday Tuesday April 20th

I spent an hour or two this morning burning the grass on the side hill next the school house & in the little timothy flats. I then killed all the roosters on the place which was five including one that I lent Dad. awhile ago and brought home Saturday. They were not very fat but I thought it was no use keeping them any longer. Karl said they were paying 25 cts a lb for them. I killed the last one after dinner and had to chase him all over the place to catch him as he got away from me. I shut them all up in the crate last night. This after noon I put the new chimney Hugh made me on the colony house. He didn't make it the right angle and it slopes to the south but I think it will work all right. I cleaned out the colony house and raked up around it and Harry B and I lit a bonfire of the leaves and litter. Ina was here to-day and I drove her home to-night. Nice day, milder, S.W. wind.

Wednesday April 21st

We did up the morning work as speedily as possible and we all. wemt down to town early. We took down the roosters and got 6.75 for them and marj. did some shopping and we got back home for dinner. Marj. weighed herself and discovered she was getting fat (146 lbs) so weanted some exercis eand w ecleane dout the old shed this after noon It was in awful shaoe but looooks vastlyimproved now. Marj. was tired out to-nigjht. Bobby ha d ared and white bukk calf tis morning when I wem tout. Art Quanbury came in tis after noon & got their garden drill. Fine & warmest day yet.
