after breakfast and after doing chores went down town with some eggs and to get my chicks at Chris's. By the time I got every thing I needed in town it was noon when I got over after my chicks and Chris was home. We filled the two egg crates with chicks putting about 100 in one & 50 in the other and Chris lent me a regular chick box which held 100 and that was all I could get in the buggy so I came home with them and Marj. helped me grease all their heads with lard and put them in the brooder Harry B and Gay were out with us and greatly interested in the "burdys" as Gay called them. As soon as we had dinner I went back after the rest and got about 150 more so that as near as we can count there were 409 chicks and I killed a cripple out of those. They are a healthy looking lot although there are a few weaklings I walked up to the Shand's about six to call up the Co-Operative to see if they had any hay for sale but they hadn't. I swept the school house on my way back as I had to milk Mary to-night and give the calf a lesson in pail feeding which he refused to take, it was late when I got through to-night and Marj. & I were both pretty tired. Marj. raked up the lawn in front & north of the house this after noon. I went out a couple of times before I went to bed to look at the chicks, as they were screeching loudly and I am a little afraid they aren't quite warm enough, and since I loosened the nut on the regulator, it hasn't been hot warm enough to raise the top damper, and I don't know what else to do. It has been an ideal day for moving them. Sunny & very warm, cooler to-night.

Sunday May 2nd

I woke up at five this morning wondering how my chcks were so got tup and went to look frarful least I should foms them all cilled as they screeched so loudly last night, my fears increased whe I went out and didn't hear them this morning so it awas a great relief to fimnd them running saround and contented After breakfast I took our=t sdsseven fddead ones from under the hover evidently the weak ones. It has been unseasonably hot all day to-day so they have been plenty warm enougjh. I tinkered around all day forenoon with the cjickens and other chores ably assisted - from their point of view - by Gay & Harry B.
