I cultivated corn all day with old Belle and as I went crosswise and twice in a row I didn't finish the field. Andrew was here and hoed steadily all day and has the mangolds tomatoes and nearly all the strawberries hoed. He stuck steadily at it although I strongly recommended an occasional rest as I was afraid he might get sick in the hot sun all day when he is not used to it. He walked home to-night through the field and said he couldn't come again till next week. I told him I could use him when ever he could come at $1.50 a day and his dinner & supper. Still very hot. Wind has been easterly but now west. | I cultivated corn all day with old Belle and as I went crosswise and twice in a row I didn't finish the field. Tuesday July 6th
I was over home all day to-day and we finished getting the alfalfa in in seven big loads and a lift. Dad. & Frank put five in yesterday making twelve loads off that field. Andrew Lowe came out here this morning and I left him to cock up the rest of my alfalfa and do some hoeing. Ina was here all day and Marj. drove her home and took Andrew as far as Pickford's corner. Hot & very dry
Wednesday July 7th
Dad. celebrated his birthday out here to-day and we got my alfalfa in. We only hauled three lifts to a load and made it in four trips & one lift extra, but it took us a long time to gather it off the hill so we were all day at it. Andrew came out and went back with Dad. He mowed away and hoed between loads. He is slow but a steady worker and a very nice fellow to have around. Hot. I walked down & back to band concert to-night. Very tired
