Great events since the last entry. The first installment of the fortune has come and Dad. has booked his passage on the Montroyal which leaves Quebec a week from to-day. It doesn't seem true yet and we can't realize that we are in the millionaire class so don't act like it. The most important thing to us yet is the crops and Dad. hates to leave to "mess about" with a pesky fortune with so much work around the farm to be done. I don't know whether he will feel any different when he gets back or not, habit is a terrible thing and it beats all what some people "won't" do for money even millions of it. After the excitement of the judge's decision died down, things dragged along through July without much happening. Mr. Parks was busy with the unborn babe business and finally got the master's certificate saying no child had been born, this news he cabled and about the end of July sent word over that the Judge had declared Dad. entitled to the whole fund on the strength of the master's certificate without any argument in court. During this time he couldn't find out for sure what the Right Heirs were going to do about appealing and asked Dad. if he would be willing to compromise with them. Mr. Manning at first advised against a compromise as he said they had absolutely no claim and shouldn't get anything but as they had a right to appeal and by doing so could delay the case until nearly Christmas and possibly for a year or two, Dad. thought it wisest to settle & since all the counsel have agreed with that decision. Early in August Mr. Parks made them an offer of £35,000. and not long after they accepted but as they all had to sign and he had to send a document out here for Dad. to sign giving his authority to the Trustees to pay over the money it was not until last week that the final message came saying "Cheerio." and Dad. did not take any steps towards arranging for the trip across until Wednesday when he knew for certain that Mr. Parks had cabled £1000 to the bank for him.
