| − | far in connection with the affair is the number of letters he has received from all over the country begging for money, some of them are rather pitiful but as he can't inquire into the circumstance of the writer's he doesn't answer them. He has had three from Holland one just asking for his photograph & autograph and one written in dutch which he had to send to Montreal and have translated. One was from Quebec written in French which Aunty could read and others from almost every province in Canada and two or three from Ireland, some of them claiming relationship to either the Barretts or Dicks. One long letter came from a woman in Saskatchewan who hailed from Haliburton. Marj. knew her family well. She wanted to go in for raising orphans. Dick arrived safely to-day and everyone is on the move to get things in shape to leave. Dad Enah Tim & Dick are going over to England and Marj. & the kids are going up to Haliburton while Dad. is away and Frank & I are going to keep batch at the farm to be joined we hope by George Pelly as soon as he can get here from B.C. I am going to take my cows over there to avoid running back and forth to do chores. | + | far in connection with the affair is the number of letters he has received from all over the country begging for money, some of them are rather pitiful but as he can't inquire into the circumstance of the writer's he doesn't answer them. I am going to take my cows over there to avoid running back and forth to do chores. Farming operations in this corner of the earth have been unsatisfactory lately. We had ideal haying weather and got the hay in in fine shape but it was too dry for the corn and small stuff my corn is a failure and I had hoped for a good crop with sweet clover & manure ploughed down. As soon as harvest commenced the rainy season opened and we hadn't a chance for three weeks or so to do any thing with the crops some managed to get the wheat in between showers and we hauled this little piece of mine in one load before the rains were over but it got badly weathered. |

Frank has all the oats south of the gully vut and a few rounds in the back foeld but he broke a part of the binder and nw is comtemplating turning the cows in on them as they are rusty and down and a mess with sweet clover. We finished hauling the field and west of the lane next the gulkly yesterday. Dad. got his second crop of alfalfa cut this week & is it is a beautoful crop. We hope to haul it or most of it to-morrow. Mr. Barwell took Dad. & Enah to Simcoe to-day to get some clothes and they are going to take | |
