I didn't do any thing this fore noon but hold the baby and a few necessary chores. The poor baby is still feeling very tough but has been able to keep down a little gruel to-day and seems a little more cheerful to-night. This after noon I worked at the chicken house and got the east end all boarded in so that now all that has to be done is to hang a couple of doors put wire along the front and build nests & roosts. Ina was here all day and walked home to-night before tea. Ray and George are up for a few days and were over here this morning, but didn't come in. Snowed a little this morning very mild no wind.

The New Year started out with a pweerfect Winter day. Cold enough to be quitenippy, but sunny and no wind. I didn't et much doen outside but the chores as the baby wa still feeling miserable enough to need consif=derable nursing, and I had to stay in to help Marj. First of all the lard had to be rendered as it was beginning to taint and I sat and stirred it for an hour or so. Later tgis after noon I emptied the cider barrel by fillin gup the milk pails, cream can and every pther available vessel I couold find. That took till after tea and then I had to empty the dregs and scald out the barrels put it down cellar beofre I could get a pail to milk in. When marj. wasn't holding the baby which wa either when shem ther baby, was aslepp or I was holding her, she, marj. was busy making pies, doughnuts, straining lard and cleaning up the hkuse, so that between us we ha da busy day and it was nearly midnight before we got ur various jobs wound up. I didn;t empty all the cider but left it to settle more. I let the cows into the corn this morning and they were there for a good part of the day. It may save cutting it. Got one egg to-day. First sinc ewe came back home.

called in to see Dr. Cook about the baby as she is still sick. He gave me some pills for her but they haven't done her much good yet. She is weak and listless to-night and we are worried about her. She can't keep any thing in her stomach and so hasn't had an nourishment to do her any good since Monday. I am having a time with Mary's udder. One quarter is badly inflamed and caked and so sore she fights me when I just touch it. Cold west wind cloudy.
