This after noon Tupper and Charlie Butler came over and Tupper got six old hens for a dollar apiece. A little later Marj. called me and said Mr. Bagley was here. He had walked out and proposed walking back but we persuaded him to stay for tea and I drove him home afterwards. He and the kids had a great time and Harry B. & Gay howled dismally when they had to go to bed. I got a start made at building my roosts and nests and as I got a pullets egg to-day, I can't get them too soon. I stopped in at Auntie's on my way home to-night but they all had their things on to go out and all asked me with one accord if I was going to the hockey match. Dad. Enah. Roy Vernon Quint & Dick were all there and as near as I could make out some of them were going to Huby's to play cards and some to a funeral service for poor Mr. Reynalds who died in the Guelph sanitorium. I spent the forenoon working at the chicken house but didn't finish and this after noon we all went down town. Marj. went up and did her trading while I took Vernon for a sleigh ride around the hill but the sleighing is poor so we didn't go far but I went back to Auntie's and waited for Marj. Roy & Quint were busy building another bookcase; as they unpacked three or four more cases the other day. We came home by the farm to get a couple of steel rat-traps as Marj. saw a rat in the cellar yesterday. Froze hard last night. Sunny & no wind to-day.

Got up this morning about five for the express purpose of reading as I can't keep awake to read in the evenings and I spent a very enjoyable two hours reading a very small volume of Plutarchs Lives which I borrowed from the heirloom collection. I encouraged the rest of the family to stay in bed as long as they would and we had a late breakfast. I spent all the forenoon doing chores and puttering around and about 2.30 we all drove over to Harvey Evan's we intended only staying for a short time but wound up by staying to tea. It was a fine morning, sharp but sunny but this after noon while it was fine there was a raw east wind, and it is cold tonight.
