Got up this morning to find it was a bitterly cold morning and the kitchen fiore had burned out. The house was not cold however as the dining room fire was still going and the kitchen one had just gone out. When Marj. got up abput eight, sghe felt very dizzy and bilious and had to lie down again for an hour or two and didn't feel well all morning. In consequenc eof all these misfortunes I got very little done all forenoon but it was too cold to work at anything anyway I drove down town this after noon and got some wheat oat chop and btan and stayed at Aunty's

Monday January 24th

Got up late this morning and spent most of forenoon at the chores. About eleven I drove over home and got there just in time for dinner. Went on down town this after noon as Dad. gave me a cheque for $500.00 to pay up my debts, so I settled with Sutor. I took some eggs down and did some grocery collecting and spent a little while down at the house with Aunty, Roy. Walter & Dad. who was there waiting for Enah to have her teeth fixed. I had some thought of going back to town to-night to see the Junior hockey match between Dover & Dunnville but by the time I had tea and finished the chores, I decided in favour of a chair by the fire and spent the evening in reading aloud to Marj. "The Fair Maid of Perth" while she cut up orange peel for marmalade or else changing with her when I became drowsy or she got tired of cutting. In this way we managed to get considerable reading done all the oranges cut up, let the fire go out and light it again and stay up till long after midnight. Fine and milder.

Tuesday January 25th

I had to take Bobbie over home this morning and on the way I met Roy Hammond who invited me to a bee at the school house this after noon, the object being to shingle the shed. I was over there all the afternoon and we just nicely got started shingling. We tore all the siding off as well as the old shingles as they intend putting on new boards and painting it. They also had to put facing boards on the gable ends and lengthen the eaves and box them in before they started shingling so that took most of the after noon. There were nine of us I think over there. Ina was here to-day and I drove her home to-night. Cold night but sunny and quiet to-day
