Spent the forenoon doing chores, had an early dinner and Marj. Harry B and I drove down town this after noon and took down 15½ doz eggs. We were in at Auntys for a few minutes and Marj. went up to see Essie for a short time to arrange with her about going to the Carnival to-night. We were very much surprised to hear at Aunty's that Dad & Enah had left for Toronto this morning. Dad went down to see Jim Ross who is in very bad shape with ulcers of the stomach. Dick is down there too having gone with Vernon. We got home early and had an early tea. Ina was here all day and Mabel came over after school to stay with the kids while we went to the carnival. Marj. got dressed up in an outfit that Aunty and Aunty Alice decided had better be called a swiss costume and placarded her "Rose of Lucerne". The kids were all up when we left and were quite excited over seeing Marj. with such fancy clothes and the prospect of staying with Mabel and Ina so didn't object in the least to our leaving. The carnival was a big success in spite of the ice being very soft. Marj. went up and called for Essie and she did very well on her skates considering she hasn't been on them for so long. I stayed with the band till quite late and then went down and borrowed skates from Cars. Rankin and had about ten minutes skating but Marj. was just ready to quit when I came on so I didn't have much of a skate with her. The management said they made $200.00.

as after Sunday school she went and called on Mrs. Lampkin. I spent the after noon building barns rinks and castles with blocks and reading to the kids. They were all as good as possible. Cloudy all afternoon high wind & very mild.

Monday January 31st

It froze up again during the night and has been cloudy and raw with north west wind all day. I didn't get much but chores done before noon as Pickford was over for awhile to look at my brooder. He is contemplating getting one. This after noon I worked at the nests in the chicken pen and got them all in but have to put hinges on the door yet. Mrs. Harvey Evans was in this after noon for quite a visit and wanted me to go over there to-night and help her cull out her hens so I was over there all evening.
