Meltzer's Sign of Appendicitis

With the patients supine and the abdomen relaxed the examiner presses firmly with his fingertips down upon Mcburney's point; the patient is then instructed to raise his right thigh, with the keen fully extended. If this movement causes or is inhibited by severe pain, it is strongly suggestive of appendicitis, the organ being compressed between the contracting psoas muscle and the examiner's fingers.
