October 1885

12 Finished lifting potatoes. began the ditch Wrote to Murdy. sent $10. ten dollars, bought Aunties cow for twenty dollars, borrowed the money from Far
13 Pa & the boys went early to work on the creek and took their dinner with them. About ten it began to drizzle & rain about noon it rained heavily, and the folks came hom. it rained all the afternoon. There was a meeting of the young people in the Hall to try and get up a concert for Hallow'een.
14 The forenoon was pretty dry but about noon there was Thunder & lightening and the rain came down in torrensts. And rained until about three when it ceased And turned quite warm. I went to the Hall but there was no Prayer Meeting plenty of people but no leader. Had a letter from Murdy & Bell is sick.
16 Evening Aunty was over. Jimie heard that Bell died this morning and her corpse will be up on Saturday Evening Had 1 1/2 lb tea 75 cts
17 Done a big days work mopped all the house. got 1/2 gall vinegar 3 lb sugar 1 qrt syrup 15 45
18 Jimie {?} and I went to John McGillis to Bell's wake They came by evening train Murdy came with them and a Mr Scullin She will be buried this afternoon at 3 Oclock Evening The funeral is over. And Kate
