August 1886

29. Sabbath fine day, a good number in church Murdy McLennan from Lancaster was with us in church. Burtons children were presente with bibles by the Sabbath Schools The family are going to move to Maxwell next week
30 Nice dull day rained a shower in the evening. There was a picnic at the manse this afternoon for the little Sabbath Schoolars.
31. I got at Dan's 5 yds duck for overhalls 25 cts pr yd. 2 lbs washing soda 1 lb starch 10 Cents 1 bath brick 1 paper pins 5 Pa is still busy with his repairs The Schools church yesterday The month is done and it brought changes to many a home. There was a very sever storm accompanied by hail visited the West of the South Branch hail as large as hens eggs destroying grain and potatoes, breakiing windows etc.
August 3rd There is an account in the papers of an earthquake in the Southern States particularly in Charleston where a number of the finest buildings have been thrown and a good many people killed.
