The factory chimney fell over and Duff was badly hurt. The roof of the {Mennonite?} church was taken off and the Steel Works was burnt. Much other damage was done the chimneys and many barns were destroyed. Mrs. Ewald's house was partly blown in at the gable. Mrs. Forrester's barn was nearly all destroyed and another barn out that way has its roof taken off. It is reported that 25 barns round Port Elgin are destroyed. Jim Kennedy's old carpentry shop was partly destroyed and the roof blown off. Thompsons oil storehouse had its roof destroyed. It is about the worst wind storm on record here.
