the cotton-mill business in New bedford, but as might have been expected his love of freedom revolyted at that and he soent a few minths with the gas drillers, then a soldier right through from the bell temts of Camp life to the dug-outs in the war zpone, he has breathed the breath of battle and suffered the hardships of actual warfare. He has heard shells whistle and crasj and macj=hone guns (his own) rattle. He has seen men killed at their guns and has had his own compoanions blown to pieces by the same shell that bu=y a miracle spared him. He can talk most interesltingly on the manner sof the people of France & Englandand tell more about teh cities of gertmany & Great Britain than most books. He has very keen powwers of observation and as he has read very little ihis impressions & expressions are original and unconventional a sindeed are all his activities. Becaus eof that unconventionalityt he is held in disrepute byt eh good people of Dover although I ust admire him for it at least I think I do, maybe I jjust admoire him in spite of it. Of course I can't help agreeing woith people when they shakle their heaeds and say it is too bad Quintin is content to weaste his tile selling ice cream and tempting the public with cupie dolls to throw at stuffed cates instea dof turning
