tiny thing like a grain of sand which would commence to grow with increasing speed unil it would engulf me and everything else, and I would wake up terrified. Another disappointing thing was the density of the darkness. I thought dfrom what the papers said and from the stories I had heard of chickens going to roost that it became. as dark as night and I thiught when it was coudy it would be pitch black, but it didn't get much darker if any than I habve often seen it get in a seummer thunder storemn, and when it comes dowm t a show-dowm, for a magnificent & awe inspiring spectatcle a real old-fashioned thunder-storm is oretty hard to beat. From my post in the barn I could see as far west as the old Du WEau place which myst be clos eot two iles away and I kept watching in that direction for the shadow bands Finally the western limit of my view grew dim and shortened and then the darkness settle donuus in a jerky fashion, the punky yellowish tinge which had been in the eastern sky ever since sun rise and whxih wa snot unnatural sprwad all around the hirizon, but as I could see quite disctinctly for at best a mile around me I kept expecting deeper
