thought as it was Sunday and we had agreed to stay home I would do up the chores early and spend the rest of the day in peace. Marj. was very tired so she stayed in bed till about half past eight and we had a very late breakfast so decided not to eat again till late afternoon when we had a bang-up chicken dinner I went over to the school house to sweep as soon as I got the chores done and was delighted to find my new number of the International Book Review in the mailbox (we had evidently missed it yesterday) and had visions of a glorious read this after noon. The first thing necessary was to get the kids to sleep, with Gay this was soon accomplished by taking her out in the sleigh for a little while. I then took the Niblits out while I did up some outside work, and came in and rocked him for some time. He showed sign's of departing to the Land of Nod but although sleepy he wouldn't let himself go, so I had to give that up. About this time Gay woke up so she had to be brought in out of her sleigh. I put her in Harry B's bed to play but she roared till we put her on the floor where she still roared, so then we all three, she Harry B & I pushed a chair around the kitchen for awhile till she got tired of that. About this time I thought I had better help Marj. wash dishes, she had been washing at them off & on all morning but there was still about a two foot stack of dirty ones. This done Marj. tired herself out trying to rock Harry B to sleep and I held Gay on my lap to keep her quiet. Marj's efforts proved futile and Harry B. made an attempt to get into my lap which made Gay furious, and she kicked and screamed like a little savage. We then went into the nursery and I gave her a walking lesson by standing her against the door and trying to get her to walk to me. She can balance herself alone standing and she did take one or two steps but is a little afraid to trust herself yet. I then made an abortive attempt to sketch some of their positions but they wouldn't stay still long enough so about four I went out to do chores We had tea about five and I milked afterwards and Marj. got them to bed in fairly good time. I got one or two articles read in my new magazine after tea but not many as Marj. thought we had better go to bed early. It has been a beautiful sunny day although very wet underfoot. We had a real thunder storm this morning about six but it didn't last long. Quite warm to-day.
