down the creek than the others had gone but another got stuck near the long one: so Frank conceived the idea of making a raft out of three logs and riding down on it and loosening some of the others that were fast. I went up to the barn to get spikes and some pieces of scantling and discovered Mary & Bobbie in the barn. I had left them in the yard but as their stable door was swelled I couldn't fasten it shut and they had gone in and walked right through their stancions into the barn Mary had knocked over a bag of wheat and spilled a lot but I don't think had eaten much. I turned them out in the field. After we got the raft made and launched, we found it wouldn't hold us up so we had to take it to pieces and let the logs go separately. We then put in two logs from the big tree and by this time it was getting late so we went down along the creek and loosened up one or two that were stuck on this side. Frank had his rubber boots so could get at them better than I could. We didn't see any go down near the end of the gully but we were sure we put in 11 logs and when we went down could only count 10. I went down through Dave's as far as the culvert but couldn't locate the missing one, so we don't know whether it has gone on down through the woods or whether we made a mistake counting. Very mild, sunny for awhile this after noon but raining again to-night. Cistern full.

Tuesday February 24th

I went over to the farm this morning to help them get some silage at the factory but it was rather late when I got away as I did up the chores and shaved first. I took Harry B. with me and we got over about eleven. Dad. had gone down town with some milk for Aunty so we had to wait till he got back at noon to take the rack off the waggon and shift the box from the sleighs to the waggon. We harnessed the team and oiled my buggy. Frank and I went right after dinner but we went up town first to post some letters and I had to get coal oil, we then went to the station and got my box that the chickens were shipped in, from there to Bill. Langs where I got some chop and bran and then around to Aunty's for a few minutes; so by the time we got to the factory put our load on and home again and got it off it was five o'clock and nearly six before I got home with the Niblets who by then was fast asleep.

Ina was here so she & Marj. had their tea while I was feeding up and milking and then I drove her home before I had tea. Another little delay I had this morning was to godown to the creek with the ladderin order to help the two Robinson kids across. They ahd struck out for school through the woods and I suppose followed the creek which they couldn't cross down into this gully. Damp, dull mild
