Tuesday March 31st
Tom. came over this morning to tell me he couldn't come on this fore noon as he had some work to do at his bridge. I attempted to paint my name on the mail-box but it was too cold so I quit. I took my shovel and new handle over to Evan's for him to put the handle in for me, but found he was sick in bed with bronchitis. I walked on over home and found Dad. & Frank giving the sorel filly the rudiments of education. They had a rope around her neck and were trying to get her into a stall to {tap?} her but she was determined not to go. She wrestled & tussled with the rope for about an hour reared pawed and threw herself and got in a steaming lather and finaly got quite quiet. Harry B and I had a great visit and he didn't want me to come away but I came home for dinner. This after noon Tom. & I scraped a ditch along north of the lane and scraped some of the gravel that washed off back on the flats. Just about quitting time a man came along and got Tom to go and haul a big truck out of the back field. East wind but sunny
