hard. There was a good crowd there and there was plenty of entertainment. The big attraction was a horse race at least it was for us as we all had money up We paid a quarter apiece for a chance without seeing the horses and if we drew the head horse won half a dollar. Frankie Lemmons and I each drew Oh! Min! and Oh! Min came in about 25 yards ahead so nothing would do but Frankie & I had to treat the band with the winnings, accordingly we pooled our half dollars and got a dollar's worth of 5 ct cigars and as the band was by no means full strength everybody got one, and I found two in my hat when I got home. We got a good supper of ham sandwichs and pie & cake but there was no cream or sugar for our tea. We played a few pieces after tea but quit before our time was up as it started to sprinkle, it had been threatening all day but by now it looked as if it meant business and it did. By the time we got started it was raining nicely and Carl. got off the clay roads before it began hard but after we struck Mud. Street it came down by the tub-full. We could hardly see out of the windshield and the road began to take on
