hard. There was a good crowd there and there was plenty of entertainment. The big attraction was a horse race at least it was for us as we all had money up We paid a quarter apiece for a chance without seeing the horses and if we drew the head horse won half a dollar. Frankie Lemmons and I each drew Oh! Min! and Oh! Min came in about 25 yards ahead so nothing would do but Frankie & I had to treat the band with the winnings, accordingly we pooled our half dollars and got a dollar's worth of 5 ct cigars and as the band was by no means full strength everybody got one, and I found two in my hat when I got home. We got a good supper of ham sandwichs and pie & cake but there was no cream or sugar for our tea. We played a few pieces after tea but quit before our time was up as it started to sprinkle, it had been threatening all day but by now it looked as if it meant business and it did. By the time we got started it was raining nicely and Carl. got off the clay roads before it began hard but after we struck Mud. Street it came down by the tub-full. We could hardly see out of the windshield and the road began to take on the appearance of a young river. Carl turned into the shed when we got to the Dog's Nest and we found Carl. Coleman in there ahead of us. He had Harry Moon Harvey {Bace?} & Kenneth Steele in there ahead of with him. There was another car and a pea waggon in there to besides Win Law & Geln Ryerse. We stayed there for about two hours and saw one of the heaviest downpours I ever saw accompanied by some very respectable thunder & lightening Several claps & flashes came almost simultaniously and almost blinded us. Carl Coleman & his bunch pulled out before we did and just as they left another downpour came, finally they all left but us and Jim Ryerse came in.

He had been down at Billy Fallon's. I crawled in the car and went to sleep for awhile. About quarter to ten it just about qit raining so we came home. Carl. & I cam eup the Plank through town and Jim & Frannkie went down the Marburg road and Frabk walked home from Welsh's corner. I heard later that Jim had to leave his car in the road all night as he couldn't get up Charlie Dixon's hill but there were a good many others in the ditch all night too. Ina stayed here all night. Everybody wa soverjoyed to see the rain and it did very little damage
