to be no school to-day or to-morrow on account of teacher's convention. Dad. & Frank came over with the load of wood and said one of them would come out after dinner and drill my wheat in. We all went down to Aunty's for dinner but I came home right after and harrowed the field and Frank came out and drilled it and helped me run the ditches out. Marj. & the children stayed down for the after noon and Quint brought them home about five. Aunty came out with them. Dad got his affadavits concerning Dick's and Frank's birth certificates so had to go down and swear to them and post them this after noon. Lovely day, milder

Friday October 2nd

I cleaned out the cross ditches in my wheat this morning and about half past ten went down to Aunty's and got some raspberry roots. I stayed there to dinner and came home early after dinner and set out the raspberries. I got them all out just as it began to rain. I put them back of the barn just at the head of the wheat. It has been very dark and threatening all day and very much milder and we had quite a thunderstorm this after noon.

Saturday October 3rd

I spent nearly the whole day leveling down the big pile of earth south of the house and made a considerable hole in it but have about half of it to dispose of yet but I think I can get rid of it and the pile under the crab apple tree by filling in uneven and low spots around the yard. I went out to the shed this morning after the rake and heard what I thought was one of the little leghorn chickens cheeping as if it was caught some place, but on investigation found eight young rooks just hatched in a box of shav{ings} up overhead, so I had to get them down and put them & their mother in a coop. I don't know what {will} happen to them. The cows have been in the orchard all day and consequently have had very little to eat. They won't jump out the way they jump in unless {they want?} to but late this after noon managed to break down the fence into the yard so I put them right in the {word off the page}
