Tuesday October 20th

Dave Lampkins came over this morning to ask me if I would take Queen over to put with Dan. & help him haul in his corn stalks so I have been over there all day. He started out by hauling a load of about six shocks in on the stone boat but I persuaded him to hook to the waggon and then he wanted to only haul about {illegible} shocks to a load, but after dinner it was too windy for him up on the load so I loaded and kept him pitching till we had a decent load on and so we got the corn all in, but didn't unload the last load but I said I would help him with it in the morning. Marj. said when I got home that Charlie Shand was down this morning to tell me to go up and call up Marston, so I went up to-night but no-one was home at Harvey's so I didn't get him. Young Dove was in and said they had closed the pit to clean it. Still cold windy and cloudy. Miserable weather.

Wednesday October 21st

I went over and helped Dave unload his corn stalks this fore noon and then dug the rest of the potatoes. This after noon I set up the corn back of the barn and picked the Rebston pippins. Betsy Paterson and Amy Harper Parker were out this after noon to see Marj. I went up to Shand's again and called up Marston and he told me he had written me and wanted the teams all laid off. When I got his letter I discovered my services were no longer required but no explanation as to what was the matter. I am glad to be relieved of the job but don't like such a summary dismissal.
