Thursday January 14th
I cleaned the straw out of the big chicken house this morning and put fresh in. I didn't have enough straw to put in both pens. This after noon after I let the cows & horses down to the creek for water I got the paper and came in to the house and read it for about an hour and then went over to Charlie Munroe's after butter As we are not sending cream now he didn't leave us any butter. Marj. cut out and made herself a dress this afternoon out of an old one of Alie Buckwell's and this evening she made an apron for herself. Shes a hoosler when she gets a'goin". She set bread to-night after having had two failures due to cold sponge or bad yeast cakes we don't know what. I got one egg to-day and one on Tuesday the first we have had for two or three weeks. Very blizzardy not cold.
Friday January 15th
Harry B and I drove over home this morning as I had arranged with Frank to go after hay but when I got out on the road I decided the sleighing was too bad. The snow was softer than it has been but packed so hard where it had drifted that trail breaking with a load would be hard pulling and in other places the road is bare. My lane too will have to be dug out before we can
