May, 1930 1 Wednesday. Very sultry. Thunderstorm and shower this morning at 4.30 and again this afternoon. Ms. {Esch's?}barn was struck by lighting and burned. The men were seeding. Ella planted peas, beans, lettuce, radish, beets, carrots and several kinds of flower seeds. Earl & Ella Miller visited us tonight. 8 Thursday. Fine day. Walter went to Elmira, also brought the little chicks - 170 - home from {Abe Baumen's?} Vernon was cultivating this afternoon Ella started cleaning the cellar. Mrs. Henry Stange died at Elmira this afternoon. Vernon visited Emerson tonight. 9 Friday. Hot and sultry. Walter traded cultivators with Ewart Davison last night and Alex McDonald got our old one today on his truck. Walter whitewashed and scrubbed the cellar for Ella. Vernon was cultivating. Olto Miller and Addison Reist called here tonight.
