Mon. 20th. Commenc'd school again. Ernest met me as I was going across from P.O. to school and walked to gate wth me. Then he said "Good bye" with out waiting to think long and went off with tear in his eyes to go to bid Melissa good-bye. Then he came back to our place. Sarah made him a bouquet. Ida's pin fixed Nettie's gem in centre of a little box with her hair braided around the gem; and picture on lid of box. I expect he had quite a serious time bidding them all good-bye. No wonder he felt sad leaving home for the first time. School in A.M. & dismissed to attend Bapt. picnic in afternoon in Dr. Wild's grove. It rained hard as E.M. went to ten o'clock train.
