Frid. Nov. 7th/84. S & I churned & then Sorted apples in barn Millie helping us & had fun till dinner. Dr come & Aunt & Uncle William Atkinson come when we were at dinner. Two Annies & S went to Ing. & Willie went to Cristises P.M. & I in root house pitching turnips all P.M. & I very tired & S away & had to do her work & to bed early.
Nov 8th/84 Sat. Willie went on 1st train of two Annies walked over to station with him B4 they had their Bkfst. I went & pitched turnips back for awhile & then I fixed soap & lie {lye?} & I got very much bothered getting a board to shelter the wind. I did all cleaning in ½ hr. B4. dinner & I late for dinner & I felt provoked at everything & then gave away to it with my feelings & I went out to barn & unloaded a load of turnips & Annie B. come out to see one of them. Annie G. came & I came in & washed & Blackened boots & went to Bronte in a hurry to Mrs Wrights to store & P.O. I ate my tea B.4 I did my work at night & other girls talking & laughing while I got my work done & then Edith & John Ing. came to spend Eve. At 12 when went to bed for I cleaned {?} stove at 12.
Sun 9th Nov./84 I had Bkfst at 10. & we sang & M.W. & I started coal stove & then it time for S.S & I was late for it. Mr Jeffery preached & it a lovely day & lots out. But not a good sermon for I went to sleep. Bernstons {sys?} & also Delia {JNR?} sys had hickey on at church. Ted Wrinch here for tea Aunt Ann keep house. Ma & M.W. went for a drive & went up to Curtises for dinner. When we getting dishes done Alf & Max came as I went to close shutters out doors. Alf only stayed about ½ hr but Max stayed till after 11. Ida & I left & went to bed at 9.
Mon 10th / 84. Working soft soap in A.M. & All the visitors went on 11 train. S & Ida & I & E.M. went to Dysart & Ida Annie & I in back seat & it broke with us & we had to run to catch train just jumped out of wagon & got on train. Us girls all out sorting potatoes in P.M. & boys getting in corn. Mr. Alixson come to see E.M. early in morning & Mr T. went over to day P.M. I repiped dress & writing on this. Pa went to Hamilton on 1st train & back on 6. M W. had her face poisoned & it all smooth now. Thanksgiven day. Us to bed early. Frank at {seeds?}
Tues 11th Nov/84 Lovely fine day. Us girls & Frank finishing husking corn in field & see Mrs. Douglas & had a talk. Finished at noon. After dinner I took a run to the P.O. & there to my surprise as a letter from E.E.W. McCrany teasing me. She supposed
if I had known that letter was for me she said I would have been 4 through the box. When I got back they teased me & Ma kissed & hugged me & got the letter & I read it saying he was coming home. Wed. eve or Thur morn. I then went out & sorted apples in barn with Ida & S & Will Spears come to see E.D.M. S. looking for silks for to make a hat band & S. visiting letter & I slept on sofa but did not sleep well at all.
Wed. 12th Nov. M.. & I washing. S & Ida went to sort apples & I got dinner S & I slept a wee while & I finished washing & was cleaning myself when I hurried off to Bronte for E.W. to see about boat. & I very tired & did Eve. work, & S. & I dressed for we expreated E.W. to call going home but {n'er?} I layed {laid} & slept on sofa & went to bed at 8. M.W. at 7.
Thurs. 13th Nov. Fine day. I finishing dishes & S. & M.W. putting out clothes when E.M. come & we went in room & sat til 10, & Ida come out & he went over to see Melissa & all us girls looking at coats & Jackets till dinner time. I ironed & then wemt S. & I out to sow potatoes till 5 & I milked all cows & I played few pieces for Ida & went out to listen to Oakville band {jittery?} & up writing in diary E.M. & M W preparing to go to Toronto.
Frid. 13th Nov. slept on sofa & Folks getting ready for town. I got up at 7. Went to Bronte after Bkfst. & I waited a long time for mail, seen Edith, & she told about social at Mount Pleasant. S & I went & we had cidar {cider} applesay. & Dr Buck come (& Miss Hill?} with him we were out picking afternoon & Mr Peacock came & Frank after {Hannah's} horse & to call went to get up a {pit?} of potatoes worked very hard shovelling potatoes. Minister come & helped me out with load of potatoes. Very tired went to bed at 7. Frank went up to Debate.
(?) Nov. 14th Friday I cleaned out woodshed & did scrubbing & cleaned Windows. P.M. picked up 2 barals (barrels} of apples. Ida went to Bronte 3 times. I combed hair blacked boots & did dishes. We had George W. here in morning. Very tired. Expect E.M. home to night.

Sat Apr 9th Wallace's birthday - took him to Bronte Station 2 P.M.- too early & walked cross and back over the Bridge. Drove home through snow and went on sleigh to {Hannell's?} get to A. & Alex before evening.
Sun 8th Went to S. School and stayed to church. Mr Yonge preached very few there {stayed?} to class Text Matt. XV 1.26 Up to the Baptist church in evening Mr Harris sick in church. Text: Gen. XIX. "Is not this a little thing?"
Apr. 9th "The Clock strikes nine" The {ghost?} {expect?} this "I am Thine." {?} Joy Jesus gave to try to be more like Him who loves me and died for me.
Apr. 10th Mr Little (P.S.J.) visited school this P.M. 94% Others very fair. He came home to dinner with me. Nettie & I went to "Sil's. Walk in Hall ({but?} {colored?} entertainment.)
Apr. 11th Ma came home - had her cabinet taken at {Turner's}, Hamilton. Sarah rec'd letter from Henry Walton & Emma is very poorly. Hope and pray she may recover before we go to Copetown.

Apr 12th ES came with Willie to school went away & came down on horseback at (recess?} A.M. Ride home on horseback at night with G.S.'s horse.
Apr 13th G. C. and E.W. down this evening. Girls & Maria's down to committee meeting at Mrs Wilson's
Apr. 14th Went Clarkville M.W. & Sarah {Jessie?} Nettie went to woods. G E. & E W. came on horseback in afternoon. We called at Melissa's coming home. Max down on horseback to night.
Apr. 15th {?} Mr. Ferguson preached. Edith & I went in choir as E. Triller not there. N. Jones came here from church. EW. & Max here in ev'g.
Apr 16th After school met Edith at P.O. bot paper to write letters for social, then Sarah came down so we went over & wrote letters till 10.30 P.M. and stayed all night.
Apr. 17th Willie came to school with me for {first?} All went to social at Mrs Wilson's to night. Had a nice time. Good fun with letter at P.O. E.W. & Nettie, Sarah & W.S. NC & Ja. came home together. G.E. there but not much with him. He said he is offended.
Apr 18th A full school to day (52). Sorry I have been impatient to day. Must try to be made more kind & patient like Jesus. Another social to night {N?} sat up provisions {Those?} folks not there. Sarah & I went with M. L. & Came home with same escorts again. I got four letters to night at social.
Apr. 19th Working M.S. W. Sp. at corn etc. got a ride to school. Smaller school to day W. Spear, Alf A.at school to night Alf drove Net & I home. {1883 written in ink after this}
Apr. 20th It very dull to day. Nothing special.
Sat. 21st House cleaning commenced. Sarah and I went to Broderick's at night for butter, got none, hurried back expecting Edith and John but were disappointed.
Sun 22nd Mr Yonge's farewell sermon liked him the best to day of the year. Stayed to class but did not speak and feel unhappy as consequence. Ma Sarah & I went home with Miss Williams from church. Mrs Ingeldew
and Alf here for tea and us away. After a bit, Ida & Alf came after us. Ernest came home with us. Ernest told me some unpleasant news about Max but dont feel much concerned. Spent a pleasant ev'g {?}
Mon. 23rd Gordon down with W.C. Met Emma Belyea at John's corner but missed John - I at other. New scholars.
Tues. 24th School pleasanter to day as Senr. Class Pt. 1. (Albert Broderick Wilson) went upstairs yesterday and I am not so crowded to day. John came to school to night and walked up to our gate with me to bid good bye. Would not come in, so he & Edith did not get here and he leaves on Monday. (Heard since he went out to tea supper at A. Wilson's.) Edith's birthday but I never thought of it till too late. Feel lonesome and write a letter to
C.S.O. and one to {Loyd S.?}
Wed. 25th After school I called at Wilson's
Thurs. 26th. Gave Ada McCauley music lesson - raining & stayed for tea. {Maggie} came a part of way home with me. Grant & Max called this evening.
Fri. 27th Called at {Arch N?} McDonald's to get Children to attend School. Then went to Mrs. {Grimingstons?}. Ma there so stayed for tea. When we got home Annie, Jane & Archie {?} here.
Sat. 28th. Edith Birthday Olly came down this afternoon as it got fine after sleating this {a.m.?} {?} Went to graveyard corner with them and met Max on horse back.
Sun. 29th. Ma & two Marias went to Oakville church this morning. No church here. Late for Sunday School. Will Mitchell went over to Ingledews. E.W. came home with us. Max
and Will Lucas came together to night. Had quite a talk with Max and he denies what I heard about {his?} saying. Parted quite friends.
Mon. 30th. Lot of new Scholars to day {?} me home for dinner. Mrs. (H?} and {J. Hatie?} called this evening.
Tues. May 1st. Maria's L. & W. went to Oakville. After tea Sarah and I went over to Ingledew's. Edith away to Ferkle's. We stayed a little while and saw Mrs. C.K. Horning's funeral card who was buried Sun 29th Mrs. Ingledew came over with us and we went down to get Edith. Stayed a short time at Ferkle's. Edith showed us John's letter which they got from him saying he would start to sail this week for Port Dover.
Wed. 2nd. Gave Sarah music lesson at night.
Thurs. 3rd. gave {Zeke?} M. Cutting 2nd music
lesson. After tea I started to write a letter but stopped to play organ, and had a waltz around the parlor with Wallace. House cleaned the {parlor?} today . Get down there to night Splendid fun.
Fri. 4th. Raining again. Mr. Rice from Toronto here for tea. W.G. & Gordon went home to night.
Sat. 5th. Called at Mrs Hoster's to leave a parcel I hope she will take to Toronto to be sent to Eliza Williams. Went on to Bray's for butter. Heard we are going to have J. Leek and H. Y. Ferguson for ministers next year. Ma & M.L. called at W. Brays.

Sun. 6th. Lovely May day. Mr. Ferguson preached. 'He is all we have' he says now as circuit is divided v. J.D. Leek takes Credit Circuit. Stayed to fellowship meeting. Mr. Davidson here to tea. C.W. came after tea and we stayed outside in garden with him as the evening was nice. {N.?}G.E. and M.E.C.
drove up quite late and Ernest disappeared. Feel full of remorse as I have been trusting self more than Jesus. May He help me to be more humble & watchful, trusting wholly in Jesus.
Mon. 7th. Met Jane B. at gate and went for a walk with her.
Tues. 8th. Jane & Ada here this eve'g. Sarah & E.M. planting strawberries. Ma & Maria's W & L. sick to-day and pa convalescent.
Wed. 9th. Rec'd a letter unexpectedly from a Social P.O. writer. Miss English called but did not give me a music lesson. Sarah & I accompanied her to the station. She is staying at Annie Brecken's as her folks are gone to Dakotah. Got a ride back with Arch Speers to gate. While gone Mrs. Bray & Charlotte were here, also Max. Very cold.
Thurs. 10th. Gave Ada Mc. her 3rd. music lesson. Raining again. Maggie came a ways with me. E.W. here to night with a drawing of our house.
Frid. 11th. Emma & Gordon came down at noon. Jessie Douglas, Mrs. Foster, Mr. Ferguson, Ella McKay called this afternoon & ev e'g. I wrote a letter to J. to night. Nettie & I went to P.O. to get stamps.
Sat. 12th. Gave my letter to Mr Davidson to post as he was with Johnny Mac. at corner So silly but could not help it. Emma, W.G. & Gordon went home at noon. Dr J.N. Wild called professionally. Sarah & I went to P.O. at night & met Ada & Mrs. Bray.
Sun. 13th. Miss English came this morning to go to Church with us. I went to S.S. Mr. Ferguson addressed school & preached so nice. Edith & I sat on men's side. I did not stay to Class. No one here to sing.
Mon. 14th. Sarah got a letter from {S.S.?} Oughtred did so much good to us both. Sarah & I had a good talk in bed made me feel quite happy.
Tues. 15th. Trusting Jesus to-day. May I be kept humble. Went to prayer meeting with Sarah rode home with Mr. Ferguson.
Wed. 16th. Miss English gave me music lesson. After she is gone, Mrs. Bray & Emma come. Then Grant & Max.
Thurs. 17th. Gave Ada 4th. music lesson. home for tea. Maria's go to Teacher's Meeting.
Fri. 18th. Letter from Edith I. by Willie & answered it. Edith I. & E.E.W. come and we go fishing after tea.
Catch some bass. Lent Edith two books to read.
Sat. 19th. Very busy. Move Stoves. Mabel came down and went home again with W.G. Sarah & me & Maria's go down to see the boiler being moved into W.G.'s steam yacht. Warm to-day, & Sun.
Sun. 20th. Went to S.S. & Church as usual. Mr. Fer. preached from Mat. III, 16 & 17. about Christian Fellowship & Class Meetings. Strengthened & cheered by staying to Class. Went for walk with girls to Bronte in ev'g. Came home & Max E.M. & Mrs Curtin & Murray here.
Mon. 21st. Raining & so a small school. N.G. and Wallace (who is better) came down at noon.
Tues. 22nd. Raining again. Girls sewing. Sarah went to Bray's. Gave Sarah music lesson. Mr. Pickard's funeral. Edith over to school house.
Wed. 23rd Miss English here & gave me music lesson. Max down on horse back after she is gone. Nancy called. Annie & Willie came up from Toronto.
Thurs. 24th G.A., Lizzie, & Emma came up from Toronto, & Mabel, Emma, & Gordon from Hamilton. Joe goes to Hamilton with E.W. I went to station in morning. A long talk with E.W. saw Jessie Douglas & several others there. Max there to meet a friend but disappointed.
All drive down to see steam yatcht. Emma very weak and thin so not able to walk down. Talking to Mr. McPhee who came down to fish. In afternoon Max took Emma & I for a drive. Nice & warm. Max takes Willie home with him for tea & fetches him back for late train to go home. Fire works in ev'g.
Fri. 25th.. Annie & Emma go home at noon. Mrs. Louckins, Annie come in afternoon. Sarah & I go to Bray's for butter, meet Ella & Mrs. McKay. {Jennie?} Wild stays here all night.
Sat. 26th.. Joshua comes for Jenne through rain and stays for tea.
Sun. 27 Went to S.S. & Church Mr. Ferguson text Mat I Chron. VIII. 9. Good to be there. Congregation increasing. Katie Douglas & Ada Johnson here to tea. Sarah & I go down with them to see Mrs. Douglas. E.W. here.
Mon. 28 Wallace's Sarah came down at noon. All get weighed. I weigh 112 lbs. Sarah 108. Net 122. Ids 108
Tues. 29 All drove over to Ingledew's in morning. Sarah and ma stay all day. Sarah & I started for prayer meeting in ev'g & were overtaken by Will Sp. with waggon.
rode over with him for Edith & back to church. Feel sorry because I neglected to bear my cross.
Wed. 30. M. L. and Annie L. came to visit my school. Rained in afternoon. Wrote in Annie's album after school.
Thurs. 1. Mrs. Ingledew came over with Sarah. Wallace back to his old boarding house to night. Note in ans. to ours from Edith I. Gave Ada Mc.C. 5th. M. Lesson. Met Jane Speers at Mc.C's. E.W. here on horse back. Sarah went to Toronto. Girls went with her to station then to Douglases & Hickson's with Annie L. Wrot a note to E.J.
Fri. 1st. June. Annie L. came to P.O. with me & got a letter for M. L. from G.W. & one for myself from "Scorpion." "Tinkers come to town on nags." Great excitement at school. Emily Triller & her pa called in ev'g.
Sat. 2nd. Sarah & Nat. plant potatoes. I bake cakes pies etc. Mrs. Foster called & watched me make oat cakes. Sarah & I go to Bronte in ev'g. for the Globe. buy candies.
Sun. 3rd. Went to S.S., Church, & Class Meeting. Mr. Ferguson taught 1st Bible Class. Edith I. & myself in choir. Edith came home with us for tea. Grant & Max drove down in with buggy. Did not stay long. Sarah went to church with Edith & Ida with Ella Mc.Cauley who was here for tea.
Mon. 4th...Edith came to meet me at school after four & we went
down to Johnson's to see about children singing for S.S. sermon next Sun. Edith came to gate with me. I went back to hill with her then came home. After Ma W.S. & Edith came with his new buggy and took me for a short drive. Making up Register for the month of May.
Tues. 5th. Edith, Nettie & I practise with children at church after school. Rained so did not go down to prayer meeting. Sarah let colt out second time & was gone all forenoon hunting it. came back without it. Chas. Beinston called for "Miss."
Wed. 6th. Miss English gave me 3rd. music lesson since her return. Katie Douglas & Ada Johnson & Edna here for tea & Mr. M.M. Gave Sarah her music lesson. Cleaned upstairs.
Thurs. 7th. Cleaning ma's bedroom. Arthur Pickard missing since last night. Searching everywhere and Mr. Stewart found his poor little body by the pier near warehouse this afternoon. Gave Ada 6th. lesson. Stay then for tea & Miss Holloran goes with me to see Arthur. Met ma at P.O. & come home together. Fri. 8th. No school in afternoon, to attend Arthur's funeral. Us girls sang "Going Down the Valley." Messrs. Ferguson & Harris both addressed a large congregation.
Sarah & I go home with Arrilla Wilson to tea. We all go down to Johnson's to practise anthem for S.S. sermon. Arthur Speers sings base. Go up to church to sing. E.E.W. came home with Net.
Sat. 9th.. I bake. Rains. Emma, Mabel & Gordon come on noon train. I went to P.O. after dinner & get a card from M. L. who says to meet her at 2. train. Met Davidson going fishing. Come home & go to station where M. L. & Mercy & baby are waiting. Come home & Sarah & I go to Oakville with E.M. who takes Bray's girls & their sewing girl down with us in democrat. {very simple buggy} Buy boots. Jane, Ada, Sarah & I get ice cream & biscuit at Miss Baines's see Delia.
Sun. 10th. Went to S.S. & church. Mr. Ferguson preached S.S. sermon. S.S. choir sing anthem & lead singing. Alf. & E.E.W. here for tea. Sarah & Alf for drive in his covered buggy below Oakville. Maria's L & W. with Mercy go to Bronte & Mandy & Josh. come while they are gone. I felt lonesome & went out in field to read "Prince of House of David." Get too dark & come in when Will Spears drove up with Edith & Mrs. J. Horning's niece. Commence to rain so only stay five minutes.
Mon. 11th. Mabel went hme on 1st train. Mrs. Williams & Mrs. J. Horning here in afternoon & for tea. Jane Bray's Dan drove through & Jane staed while E.M. drove Dan to station. Then E.M. went with her to Bronte. Got a letter from dear Maggie Gallie, & write one to "Scorpion."
Tues. 12th. Mr. & Mrs. Ferguson here for tea with baby. He helped Sarah & I sing then had prayers before going to prayer meeting. Sarah, M. L. and I go to prayer meeting. Edith & Mrs Ingledew who came home to-day were there with Edith's cousin's boys.
Wed. 13th. Emma & Gordon home this morning on 1st train. Miss English here but did not get lesson. Max, two Maria's & Mercy go over to Hixon's in afternoon. Sarah & Nettie go with E.M. for drive round village. Come {large black X over "C"} back & we have a sing in parlor.
Thurs. 14th. Mercy went home this morning. Made Nettie a lace collar give it to her for a birthday present. Gave Ada 7th lesson. Ma & I stay for tea. Come home & Net & Sarah go to Bronte. Net for a birthday card out of P.O. from E.E.W. She is fourteen to-day. I got a new music book out of P.O. called "Sonatinon Album"
Fri. 15th. After school I meet Edith I. at P.O. who came to meet Sarah & I as she expected us to go over. We did
not think of going so Sarah had gone to Bray's for butter. I went with her however across the creek on the scow with Mr. Ingledew's Walter Joyce working it. Sarah came over to find me after tea. We played & sang till after 9. when Mrs. Ingledew & Edith came over to our corner with us. Edith lent me two books to read, "Waverley" & "Lord of the Isles" by Sir W. Scott. She also lent me a lot of music. Got home & all had gone to their bedrooms for night.
Sat. 16th. Maria & Watson went to Hamilton on 2 train and Geo Wight came off it. I met him at doo with big apron & Sat. clothes. All busy & not cleaned up. Nettie & I washed each others heads. Ada Bray came with some music & I could not see her. It looked like rain so she soon left. Filled in part of Half yearly return from my register to-night. Answered Maggie's letter this morning.
Sun. 17th. Went t S.S. & church. A number of strangers there. Good sermon spoilt by money matters after. Subscription taken for minister's salary. Stayed for class. Nice S.S. Mr. Ferguson took the lesson. Net & I went with E.W. for a drive, down concession to below Oakville then back by middle road. Maria L. & Geo have a private talk in parlor while we are gone. Then he talks to Sarah & Net on lounge in kitchen
and tells about his two little girls Alice (oldest) and Mary. who wanted to know when he was leaving. if he was coming to see "Lillte Midia" ? She says "My pa is a good man, ain't you pa? My pa is not a bad pa." to Alice who is her grandma's girl and comes in to play with Mary but who quarrel frequently.
Mon 18th. Geo. intended going home to-night on 5:30 train but a very heavy thunder storm prevented him. Maria came down on that train and waited at Bronte station till after rain then walked home through the mud. She bot our summer dresses of ecru nun's vailing but left her parcels at station. Maggie McCauley & Miss Sarah Bouncell called this evening.
Tues 19th. More heavy showers to-day. Maria L. and Geo go over to Mandy's and get caught in rain. Geo & E.M. were out shooting in forenoon & went to Bray's for dinner. W. G. & another man come down from Hamilton for dinner. Maria drove Ge. to station. Parting salute to Nettie from him was "No harm to kiss your brother, the other girls did." Wonder if he means he will be our brother or not!?
Gave Sarah music lesson's practised a little myself, of Mozart's Sonata No. 18. Read some of "Prince of House of David" which I borrowed from Ada McC.
Wed. 20th. I found some ripe strawberries. Sarah & I went to Mr. {Caif's?} after school with some pickles. Go down to see boat. It is getting the cabin on. Came home but Miss English did not come to give me lesson. Sarah & I go to Bray's for Delineator. {tailoring pattern}
Thurs. 21st. Gave Ada 8th lesson. When I got home M L. was away with Ella McKay out to Smith's.
Fri. 22nd. Sent word to Edith to meet us at (Williams?} where we all go to spend ev'g. Edith & Lizzie Carpenter came. We had tea at ten o'clock & got home at twelve after a pleasant ev'g. E.W. came part way then we teased him & he went back.
Sat. 23rd Sat. work done when Jackson came and plastered dining room & dirtied floor again. Maria cleans it & Sarah & I go to Bray's for butter after calling at Foster's & Joyce's. N.G. goes home.
Sun. 24th Quarterly meeting at {Pallen?} no. Ma & Pa got & stay at Sherdan's for dinner. We go to S.S. 'The two M's" go to Ingledew's for tea. We have Strawberries at home for tea. Mr. Bray here. After tea Arthur Brod. took Ida & Net. for a drive.
While gone E.W. & Max come down. E.W. was there for tea. Had a nice time. E.W. showed us a {cabinet?} containing 100 heads of pupils in C.B. College.
Mon. 25th. Raining & did not go to Oakville after 4 as I expected.
Tues. 26th. Maria W. & E.M. & Sarah go to Oakville. Sarah gets dress cut & fitted at Mrs. Best's. Maria commences papering dining room. The wheel came off the waggon as they came home from Oakville just at Bridge's lower gate. Sarah & M. Le. & I attended prayer meeting. Edith & Delia there. We bare our cross for Jesus's sake, but yet I feel I have not wholly given up self to Him. Why do I hold out so stubbornly against His loving care & love? Jesus help me to humble myself & accept thee.
Wed. 27th. First picking of straw berries. Picked 4 crates. Miss English comes & gives me 4th lesson. Raining again.
Thurs. 28th. Went to McCauley's but did not give Ada her lesson as the organ keys are stuck by dampness. Met Edith at office coming home. We walked up together & Sarah came out to meet
us as she was picking berries for tea & saw us. The Maria's & E.M. go to Dr. J.J. Wild's farewell & birthday party at Hickson's. They had tea out doors. A lot from Toronto present. Max drove down on horseback with Delineators which Jane Bray took up there Tues. as she is sewing there. We had a long talk in parlor. Nettie let his horse loose. E.M. home & helps to get it for him, -- it was in farmyard. Emma Mabel & Gordon come down from station with Ar. Brod.
Fri. 29th. Finished Half Yearly Returns. House cleaning in sitting room in forenoon. Berry picking in afternoon. Mandy & Mrs Hixon call. Davidson also to complete Returns as I omitted something slight.
Sat. 30th. I picked 17 baskets strawberrys A.M. Jennie Anderson & Mr. J.M. McMichael come down on noon train to see boat launched. (Adrienne came on 2 train) We all get ready in a merry bustle & go down to se it. Leaunced {launched} about 4:30. Mabel christened it Blandina". A crowd there. Sarah & I go home with Jennie to Hamilton; stay over Sunday.
Get there after 8 o'clock. Then go down town {bring?} things. Saw new plan of carrying accounts to book keeper in Pratt Watkins, which is balls on a double track roll backwards & forwards. Crowds outside & inside watching it. Come home after treating each other to pea nuts & taffy - make a lace collar & go to bed after twelve. We also called on Kate Cumming's while down town.
Sun. July 1st. Go to R.C. Church with Kate, in A.M. After dinner go to bed & sleep. After tea us three go to John St. C. M. Church. Heard a good sermon.
Mon. 2nd. We Jennie, Sarah & I, get our pictures taken in a group. I get some gems taken. Sarah & I come home on 5.35 train. Walk down from station. Adrienne & Aunt Eliza, Henry, Eliza Smith here. Also Sarah Wallace, W. & G. & family. Sarah came from Toronto Sat. ev'g on 7 train. Toronto folks go home on late train (945). Alf. E.W. & his cousin Melville Lucas from Montreal here. Gave E.W. & Alf. each a gem.
Tues. 3rd. School again. 20 pupils. Picking
berries till 8 o'clock so did not go to prayer meeting.
Wed. 4th. Emma & children went home in morning. I taught school as usual with expectation of holidays soon. Rained to-day. Very warm.
Thurs. 5th. Strawberry picking at home, in A.M. but raining in P.M. I gave Ada her 9th music lesson. Raining so stayed for tea. Sarah came down and met Maggie, Delia & I, as they were coming a piece with me, at the P.O. We turned round &went down to see boat & got into her. Came home but too late to get my dress fitted on.
Fri. 6th. Taught School till noon. Edith came over at recess stayed till noon. She got a letter from John who has left The Persia & intends to ship from Cleveland with Will, Carpenter & Alex Henderson. I picked berries in afternoon till a shower came & stopped us about 5 o'clock.
Sat. 7th. Packing berries all morning. Helped Maria by sewing lace on my dress in afternoon but we did not finish dress as
we had to stop to clean & can up berries left over crates. Too tired to clean up so go to bed dirty.
Sun. 8th. Went to S.S. & church & stayed for class very much against my feelings. Our S.S. lessons are in Josh. now being in Acts. before this year, Mr. Ferguson preached splendidly. I expect Will Mit. went home with Edith from church as she did not stay for class. Mrs. Speers here for tea : Two M's at Williams for tea. Us four start for Brodericks but meet E.W. & his cousin at barn gate as we return home & they with us. Mel. gave us. his cards & photo for which we each gave him a gem. Had music on flute, mouth organ by boys & I played on organ.
Mon. 9th Picking berries all day.& I helping to pack, expect for a few hours in afternoon. Miss English called but I did not take a lesson & will take no more till after holidays. Mrs. Bray & Jane here for berries also many of Bronte folks as berries sold for 3 cts in afternoon. Ella McKay came also.
Old Mrs. Gilliam died very suddently this afternoon of heart disease. Sarah & I went a piece with pickers, came back & packed berries in house.
Tues. 10th. Got ready for prayer meeting when Grant and Max came on horseback to barn gate where Nettie was milking & Max helped her carry milk to house. They stayed till after 11 o'clock. Nettie & Grant & Max & I were walking round garden. Sarah went alone to prayer meeting. edith & the other girls came to the gate home with her.
Wed. 11th. Mrs. Jarvis & Sarah came down in morning. Stayed for dinner. Sarah says Maggie has an offer to teach in Ottawa Normal. Sarah & I attended Mrs. Gilliam's funeral sermon in afternoon, preached by Mr. Chinaworth. We sat in choir with Edith. When we came home Jarvis's still here. Sarah nearly persuaded to stay but did not. Intends to come again. Ida & Nettie go to station to meet Laura Jones but she did not come. Likely she was detained by the great flood at London.
Thurs. 12th. Theodore Brameld left here this evening to work at Mr. Green's near Oakville. I was picking berries all day to-day.
Fri. 13th. Mrs. Skelton was to Barnison's {Barnum} Circus in Toronto on 11th where she saw Jumbo. She amused the pickers this afternoon telling them about it. Maggie McCauley helps to make our dresses this afternoon. Choir practice in evening at church. I went to Bronte & met them nearly all coming home. Then I went a piece with Maggie & came back & found Max here. He had been to station for crates after driving Ida down to practice. Mrs. Ingledew's Willie here in afternoon. Willie has a Juvenile Missionary Card on which I subscribed.
Sat. 14th. Did the work in the house this morning. Mrs. Ingledew, Edith & Nettie & Mrs. Bray & Add came to pick berries for themselves. I go out & pick with them. Extracting honey later on in afternoon. Maria & Sarah up late finishing
dresses. Ella McKay came home with M. L. who then went home with Ella again for company but came back again.
Sun. 15th. Raining so wore our old dresses to S.S. & Church. Mr. Leek preached a lovely sermon for Psa. I. 15. All stayed to class. After tea Ernest came with horse & buggy & took Nettie & I up to Appleby Church. Got there in time to hear the closing part of sermon. Sat away up in front seat. Saw Alf. & Bumby's. Drove up to William Lucas's after Church as Er: wanted to see his cousin Melville. Deed. Alton & some others there. He played as we all sang some hymns. A lovely drive home by moon-light. The dampness straightened my feather again.
Mon. 16th. Straw-berry picking again. Ms & I pick goose berries in afternoon. Ada Johnson & Alice Garneau here. I gave Alice her school prize which Mr. Rymal left in my care. Ida & Nettie went to Bronte with them.
Tues. 17th. The last picking by the str. berry pickers. Sarah & I pick gooseberries. Had a talk by ourselves. Sarah said she can't go to Copetown with Edith & I. Us two went to prayer meeting. Edith says "we will stay home & move in with Sarah" Mrs. Ingledew tels us John came home Mon. ev'g. Mr. & Mrs. Ferguson & baby there to prayer meeting.
Wed. 18th. The "Walton Sisters" picked & shipped a crate of S.B. to {Pace?} & Davis. Toronto. Sarah put a note in the crate. Ma went to Hamilton on 2 train & took a half-crate basket of S.B. with her. Maria has started Ida's & Nettie's muslin dresses. Sarah & I went to Bronte in ev'g to tell the pickers to come again to-morrow. Met Arvilla W., Maggie J. Mc. & Adelia, who all went with us & then we went to McCauley's where there uncle Mr. Holloran & also Mr. Dav. Lucas got telling jokes & exploits of their boyhood's days. We enjoyed ourselves - the girls came home with us.
Thurs. 19th. The really last day of strawberries picked to ship - got two cases in A.M. Jane B. came in afternoon to help sew
the girls muslin dresses. Ada came in ev'g. she & Sarah & I went to P.O. through the field without telling any one. Saw E. W. & Max. Bees swarmed again, which is nothing unusual.
Fri. 20th. Cleaned upstairs in moning helped Sarah. Ada & Jane brought over Ida & Nettie's dresses as they called for Maria Le to go to choir practice with Jane. Ada, Sarah & I went to Johnson's & we purchased articles for a fruit cake. Then came homes. Ada & I played on organ till Jane came.
Sat. 21st. Ma came home at noon. We pick berries to take with us to Hamilton. Sarah, Nettie & I go on 7 train. Met Wallace & Sarah coming to meet us. Went home with them, then went on to W.G.'s - stayed all night - Nettie sick
Sun. morning We all went shopping with Jennie. Run from Pratt & Watkins to get home before storm which we did
just in time.
Sun. 22nd. Sarah & I went to John St Church with N.G. & Emma in A.M. -- We all went down to see the Blandina in afternoon. Afraid of falling through the wharf as we tried to get to her. Crowds on bridges over R.R. track for Jumbo's train. After tea Jennie & us three went to Centenary Church. Heard lovely music. Went to Wallace's & stayed all night. Eva Wilkinson (Sarah's niece) there also on a visit.
Mon. July 23rd. Barnum's Circus in Hamilton. Went down to James St. to see procession after breakfast. Met E.M. & Dan Bray who had driven the girls up to see circus. After the procession we all went to the grounds but circus not commenced so we entered a side show - saw a man without legs but had feet - another without arms or hands. a white silky haired bushy headed young man who could imitate birds & animals, two women with hair six feet long, four giant brothers, a masculine woman with bearded face, alos a beautiful Circassian woman (Sarah bot her photo) Ziela Zeleak age 19 yr.
also saw trained canary birds - 'music' on goblets, Punch & Judy etc. etc. Came out & went down street to a grocers where we had a picnic dinner on their table. Then went back to circus. E.M. had a hard squeeze to get tickets. Dan took charge of Jennie & I. Bot us reserved seats & tickets for concert after. Saw beautiful wild animals & Jumbo a large elephant 12 or 13 ft high. Good performance in the circus ring. But very warm. Six o'clock when we got home to N.G.'s. Sarah & Nettie were escorted home to N.G.'s by Alf. Alton. Sarah & I went to Wallace's to get our satchell & stayed for tea. Then came back to N.G.'s - gave it to them to fetch home in wagon. We came home on 9 o'clock train, as we went. Will Spears & Bumby girls came home on train with us. Will. & E.W. who was at Bronte station to meet us came home with us. Very tired. We got home first.
Tues. 24th. Helped pick bl.caps in A.M. Slept in P.M.
Sarah & I went to prayer meeting in evening. Enjoyed it very much. Mr. Ferguson there.
Wed. 25th. I was picking cherries when Mrs. Ferguson came after having left Mr. F. at station to go to Hamilton. E.M. brought him down with him at noon. They stayed for dinner - had green peas, then went home, took some currants & goose berries with them. {He} had prayers before leaving. We wore our crinolets last ev'g to prayer-meeting & as we got in Mr. Fer. buggy ( he overtook us going down, we also rode back with him) mine flew up below my dres. Dont think he noticed - hope not anyway.
Thurs. 26th. Picking bl. currants. Mrs. Lucas Tilly & Arty came after donner. Then Jean Jones came. Walter Sherdan drove her down but did not come in. Sarah & I went to Ingledew's in ev'g after dark. Edith, her ma, & Aunt Clarrie Buck came to Church corner with us. When we left them we heard John & W Spears returning from Oakville. John had been to Dr's. The M.'s went home with Mrs. Lucas. We went to tell them to come & help pick currants to-morow.
Fri. 27th. Mary Pickard here washing in A.M. Looked like rain so Edith & Mrs. Buck did not come till after dinner to pick currants. A great thunder storm came up about six o'clock so the other pickers went home but they stayed for tea & till nearly nine. We went to corner with them.
Sat. 28th. Picking berries in A.M. till 11 train went. Fixing our clothes for Sun. in afternoon. All untidy when Ella & her mother came. Laura & Ida run. E.M. away to Toronto to-day. Came home on 7 train. Ella brought up some bread after she went home. Mandy Hixson home from Toronto. She & her mother called in ev'g.
Sun. 29th. Slept late. Went to S.S. & church. Stayed for class. Mr. Ferguson preached well. Max & E.M. here in ev'g. Max & I went for a drive to Oakville. E.M. took M L. & Ella McKay up to Mt. Pleasant church in ev'g. Ma & M.W. & pa went to Foster's. When I came home I went down in spare room where the girls were & we had a circus - such laughing. Such a beautiful sky to-night - lovely Northern Lights.
Mon. 30th. Picking fruit all sun down then all of us (Laura, Nettie, Ida, Sarah & I) got ready in a hurry to go to Temperance Meeting in Baptist Church. Going across the new sidewalk between McCraney & McKrey's we met John I. &. Bob J. Sarah & I walked to church with them but did not go in. Edith was not there as she told us to-day when here picking currants with her Aunt Harry that she would be. Sorry we went. The other girls went in.
Tues. 31st. Mr. Ederley nearly gve us away about not being in church last night while we were picking currants. We did not want {ma & pa?} to know about us not going in. Did not go to prayer meeting as we were out a little late last night. Gave Sarah a short music lesson then we had a practice singing. Minnie Sherdan & Walter drove down this afternoon while we were all out picking currants & cherries. They stayed til dark then took Laura up with them as they expect to celebrate Laura's & Walter's birthdays on Thurs. 2nd Aug.
Wed. Aug. 1st. To-day is Delia McCauley's birthday. Edith & Mrs. Ingledew here to pick bl. currants. Edith stayed all day but her ma went home before dinner. Emily Triller & her pa called today while we were in the field. Sarah Jarvis & Jim called in ev'g on their way home from Oakville. Maria's over to Foster's
so did not see Sarah. We go to big bridge with Edith where we left her in Mrs. Tom Joyce's company & ev'g. returned with old Mrs. Joyce. Met. E.E.W. on Church hill on horseback. We got home safely but rather timid after hearing about the strange family who have traded places with Mr. Larkin, in Dakotah or vicinity.
Thurs. 2nd. Washing this morning. Mrs. Ingl. & Mrs. Bray called this morning. Arvilla & Agnetta Curtis came this afternoon while I was in the house alone; just ready to go to Bronte. They did not stay long as they had intended as we were so busy. I took them to the field to see Sarah's girls then went to Bronte with them. They met Sandy Fleming & got a ride home. Ella & her mother called in ev'g. Ernest here for a short time but did not come in. I made a puzzle of a letter & gave to him to-night. It was written in telegraphy. He intends to leave Bronte shortly for Chicago.
Fri 3rd. Drove two Maria's to Oakville this morning to catch "Southern Belle" for Toronto. I saw Clara Taylor & Mannie her sister. Also Norah Lean who saw Martha has gone to Manitoulin Isd. for her health with her sister Mary. Three Hourtises were on boat also this morning. Max drove them down in democrat & brought them home at night. Grant with down with him to meet them to-night. Our girls rode home from Oakville with them. I went to John Dorland's & got him to extract a tooth & fill one this morning. Have to go again soon to get more filled. My face ached all day afterwards & was much swollen. Mrs. Bray here in afternoon.
Sat. 4th. Picking berries in A.M. & trimming hats in P.M.
Sun. 5th. Went to Church & S.S. as usual but did not stay to Fellowship Meeting. Mr. Ferguson preached from Matt. 7. 13-14. Walked home with Bray girls Mr. Al. Peacock
& Mr. Davidson. Er. & Alf. here in ev'g. Er. gave me a letter written in a new alphabet. I got it all made out before I slept. Alf took Sarah & I for a drive. He was much nicer to-night. Poor Er. is home sick already I believe as the time draws near to leave.
Mon. 6th. Ida & I picked bl. caps. this A.M. Nettie took baskets to Hickson's. I was mending my clothes this P.M. as Sarah & I expect to go to Copetown on Wed. Mrs. Wild & Many brought fruit over to-night to fill up a crate to send to London. Ernest came for honey to night but left before we saw him as we were dressing to go to Bronte. Sarah & I saw him at P.O. Stood talking so long till a great many came along. Saw Katie Dorland - John Ing. Ella McKay & her mother & Edith & others. Edith went to Johnstons with us bare headed as she just run out of Wilson's.
that way to see us. She & Mrs. Buck have been visiting there to-day. She got a card from Hettie Horning asking when we are going. We will likely reach there as soon as the answer to her card will. Ella wanted us to come down this week some ev'g. She was sorry we would be away.
Tues. 7th Sarah & I have been getting ready to-day to go to Copeton. O. Triller & Miss Harvey came this afternoon while E.M. & Maria were extracting honey. Emily was sick and they could not stay to the prayer meeting & committee meeting appointed to see about a garden party at Mr. Hickson's. Jennie Wild came here after driving Mandy & Mrs. Wild down to meeting. M. L. went down with Emily. Katie Dorland was coming down the lane when our dog (Rover) ran up at her and would have bitten her but she called for me and I ran up and stopped him. We had a nice time.
and went over to John Joyce's gate with her, met E.M. escorting Jane B home from meeting & Mrs. Bray & Char. ahead of them. E.M. was talking to Maria on the verandah to-night when I went out and they let me hear. They think it not right to go visiting strangers and that Sarah should ought not to go anyways as she has been away enough this summer for a girl in her position who has not yet finished her education; but that I might go with Edith. I told Sarah this and she has decided not to go but I am sorry.
Wed. 8th. Sarah went with me to the corner where I met Edith in the stage & rode up with her as ma & pa drove to Hamilton with horse & buggy this morning. I gave pa some money {(1p5?)?} to get his photo's taken. How Edith's eyes flashed and her brow frowned when she saw Sarah not dressed to go too. I hesitated about getting on to go without Sarah as she was so angry but she said not to wait so I explained things when I got in and she became more satisfied reconciled.
Saw W. Mitchell at station. Had a nice time on cars talking going to Hamilton. Left our parcels at baggage room & walked around town till nearly noon then came back to Wallace's for dinner. Left there about two after having a good time and started for depot. An hour too early so went around to see Blandina. Watson showed us all about it. Came back and after waitinga short time longer took the train for Copetown. Passed Dundas on the way. Saw beautiful scenery. The town was below us in the valley with verdant hills surrounding it. Mrs. Horning & Hettie met us at the station. Copetown is not pretty. Houses are mostly poor and there are no side walks. Their house is nice and cool however. A large white frame building on a hill 3/4 mile east of station. His blsmith shop is across the road from it. I wrote a P.C. to Mrs. Ingledew & Edith wrote one to Sarah.
Thurs. 9th. Mrs. H. drove took Hettie, Edith & I down to Rock View about 9 mls. distant from Copetown to visit at Mr. Stonehouse's. We passed W. Flamboro, Greensville, and then stopped to see Hopkins Falls. Got at Stonehouse's about 11 A.M. Mrs. S. is a young looking woman. I took her to be an older sister to her daughters of which she has three. Mrs. Boser (the eldest) is a young widw then Mrs. Green who was visiting at home to day lives near home on a farm - she had her two children with her a baby & a little boy, then Letitia the youngest girl has been attending the Convent School in Hamilton. She promised to send me her cabinet. Then Johnny the youngest, and only son had been to Hamilton market with his father who is a butcher and came home before dinner. We all went over to a point in the mountain where we had a beautiful view of Hamilton's bay & beach through their telescope in P.M.
I went with Jonny to see Borer's Falls a short distance from there while the rest returned home. They were grand but not qute so nice as Hopkins Falls. After tea Johnny took Edith & I for a short drive while his pa eat his tea before going away with the horse & buggy. Then we drove home, got out to walk up one steep hill.
Fri. 10th. Enjoyed ourselves reading & practising and in P.M. went to woods with Edith, Mabel, & Edgar. Edith & I wrote an answer to Sarah's card.
Sat. 11th. Went to P.O. with Hettie & posted our letter to Sarah. Bot some frilling & candies as I forgot my box of collars & ribbons and have to have something for Sun. One of the Miss Bowerman's came to visit in afternoon. we went nearly home with her after tea. Oh to-day was the Niagara Falls Excursion. Went to station in A.M. to see the crowd go off. Edgar posted our letter that A.M. Was made acquainted with Eddie Bowman. He weighed us all while waiting for the train. Edith & I weighed in while Hettie bore down the scales to 113.
Sun. 12th. Went to church in A.M. In afternoon Eddie Bowman & Allie came & stayed for tea. We went (Edith, Hettie & I) as far as the P.O. corner for a walk with them when they were coming home. It started to rain then we turned back. I started to race home in a hurry when Hettie measured her length in the sand.
Mon. 13th. Hettie came home with Edith & I. Mrs. H. came to station with us. Did not have to wait more than 5 min. in Hamilton while changing cars. Sarah & Charlotte & Emma were at the station to meet us when we arrived at Bronte at noon. We drove Edith home. Hettie went with Bray's. Maggie Purvis & her intended & another man were at Ingledew's. John & they all were standing at the gate. Eliz. Forfar's Edie came up on Sat. They were all at dinner when we got home. Sarah & I went to McCauley's in ev'g. Met Annie
Broderick & Effie on the road. Then went to leave bags at mill.
Tues. 14th. Mrs. Wild came while eating dinner and had hers. Ida & I picked flowers for Garden wreath for the three story fruit cake Maria made. E.M. drove Sarah & I over last. The rest had gone. Walter L. took me to tea & Er. W. took Sarah. Nettie, Ida, Jennie & Laura went to tea together; Will Jones came here this A.M. for Laura but she was at Palmero so he went to Bray's then they came down with her & Sherdan's for Party. We promenaded around the yard after tea. It was very cold. Jennie Wild had album & made stand & Ida Triller sold bouquets. Jarvis's were down & Jessie's. Also Williams with Ens. N. A Giffin were up from Oakville besides a load from Burlington & a great many from Oakville & Milton. The Davidson Boys sang. Miss St. Croix from Toronto recited splendidly. Some Prof. of music was also there & helped. After I left M. L. I went off with E.B.Y. and found the other girls. Then W. Th. took me for a walk. John I. was there & I walked with him once arrived. Sarah & I walked home with M.'s & Nettie with E.W. while Ida & M L. rode with E.M. & Maria W. rode home with Bray's & Edith. I was not there. Sarah & Melville Lucas had a good promenade together. Max & Jessie awhile then he & Jennie. W. Jones went home with Bray's.
Wed. Aug. 15th. Picked a basket of berries in A.M. & Eliz. drove to Hamilton & left Edie here. After dinner Sarah & I wrote letters : She to D.E. McC. & I to Emma and one to Jeannie Alton. Went down to post them after dark. It was a beautiful moonlight night though. I saw two fellows lying on side of road by McC's corner but they did not attempt to frighten us so we got home all right & went to bed. Girls went to Foster's & ma to Bray's this P.M. Ada, Emma & Hettie went to Ingledew's and sang.
Thurs. 16th. Washing in A.M. E. M. came home.

Sun. 19th... This morning Jennie Wild came over & went to S.S. with me. Sat in choir with Ida & Nettie but there were no organ there. Josephine & May Wiley were up from Toronto & to S.S. too. I stayed for Class after church. Very warm to day indeed. Jennie here for tea. Just go through when Grant & Max drove down. Jen. & Ida were dressing & arranging their hair. Sarah & Nettie milking, I helping clear table, so ma & pa talked to them on the stoop. Jen. got ready first & marched out alone. Max had gone to help girls carry in milk & ma thought Jen. was acquainted with Grant so there was fun in an awkward predicament. However Jen made ma understand & she did the formalities of etiquette. Then we all gathered on verandah and were chatting away when we saw three young gentlemen coming
who proved to be Ernest & his two cousins Melville & Clarence Lucas from Montreal. Well we all enjoyed ourselves splendidly except Grant and I dont know what was the matter with him. Clarence played a great deal and "such a beautiful player!" He made our organ sound like a pipe organ. Sarah & Melville had a promenade around the gardens. Max & Jen & Ida had a little drive, & Net & Grant were alone awhile then Net & E.W. got into summer house alone. They stayed till about eleven. I rode down to gate with Grant and the rest walked down. Such a lovely moonlight night! Then we all stood a moment and thought where will we all be in another week. Mel. & Clar. in Montreal, Ernest in London, Jen. in Toronto & the rest in Bronte.
Mon. 20th. Commenc'd school again. Ernest met me as I was going across from P.O. to school and walked to gate wth me. Then he said "Good bye" with out waiting to think long and went off with tear in his eyes to go to bid Melissa good-bye. Then he came back to our place. Sarah made him a bouquet. Ida's pin fixed Nettie's gem in centre of a little box with her hair braided around the gem; and picture on lid of box. I expect he had quite a serious time bidding them all good-bye. No wonder he felt sad leaving home for the first time. School in A.M. & dismissed to attend Bapt. picnic in afternoon in Dr. Wild's grove. It rained hard as E.M. went to ten o'clock train.
Wed, 22nd. Arvilla & Agnetta came down this afternoon, stayed for tea, then as it looked like rain would not wait any longer as Max would not be down for them. Ma was over to William's. Lizzie Carpenter called on some business & went with us & girls to Bronte. They were frightened of darkness & lightning. Maggie & Delia McCauley came up as we went down but did not stay long. I wrote a card to Mr. Little about attending Normal School. Boat Blandina did not come yet. Eliz. Forfar & Edie here yet.
Thurs. 23rd. Maria L. went to Toronto & boat with Eliz.
Sat. 24th. Sarah & I went to Thonpson's in afternoon. Edith & Olly alone. Saw Blandina coming down after five. When we got to Bronte after dark we went down to see
it and were so tired we slept there. Jennie Anderson had come up here to sleep. Watson had taken the folks for a trip before dark and we missed that so thought we would sleep on it instead. But the bed was hard & I was too crowded with Sarah on one bed. Then went with Gordon & got too cold.
Sun. 26th. Came home, studied lesson for S.S. then got ready & went. After S.S. went down & got Jennie to come to church. Mr. Jeffrey's from Oakville preached. Couldn't count how many times he took off & put on his spectacles. Had tea on boat. (Nettie & I) N.G.'s family except Mabel were up here to tea. After tea we had such a lot of visitors also after church.
We sang & played on Melodion. Max came down with Will Lucas. Jen. N & Mandy & Joshua were also down with our folks. I came up with Jen. A. first. Max came up to corner with Net. & Ida Jen & Sarah walked up afterwards. Then Sarah, Net & I went down with Jen A. to boat but did not stay. We were hunting for harvest apples in the dark as we went down the lane.
Mon. 27th. Maria W. went on boat to Toronto. She intends to go with them down to Thousand Islands. Miss English came & gave me a lesson. This is first lesson since holiday, a fifth altogether I think.
Tues. 28th Gave Sarah a lesson.
Wed. 29th. E.B. Y. called for Sarah to go to Bray's. I went after tea.
Thurs. 30th. Gave Add her 10th. lesson. E.M. went down this morning to Toronto.
He is going with Maria on Blandina. Maria L. came home to night. Maggie & Nettie Bouncel, & Delia came up with me for ev'g. We had some honey & biscuits for refreshment.
Fri. 31st. Jennie Wild came to spend afternoon as she is going home to commence school Mon.
Sat. Sept. 1. Sarah & I went to Bronte in ev'g to P.O. & Wilson's.
Sept. 2nd. Re-opening of Church. Quarterly Meeting in Palermo. Ma & pa went & brought Laura Jones down with them. Alone in ev'g.
Sept. 3rd. Dan., Ada & Charlotte Bray came over with their buggy & Sarah, Laura & I took our buggy & went to Palermo to Concert in drill shed. A great crowd there. A splendid programme. Misses Laidlaw, Ada Hagar, Miss Ada Torrington, Davidson Bros. & others sang. Dr. Wild gave an address on "Music". Saw Don Gallie & Ben Ganton. We were very late but heard
a good deal of it. Laura did not come back from it with us.
Sept. 4th. Tues. Mrs. G.K. McCraney's baby girl born. Laura & Minnie Sherdan drove down thr. in afternoon.
Wed. Sept. 5th. Miss English gave me 2nd lesson since holidays. Mr. Johnson here talking till about 10. while I was trying to listen & make up my monthly report of attendance.
Thurs. Sept. 6th. Were going to Ing. but Sarah got tooth ache & did not go. I think I gave Ada her lesson, 11th lesson.
Fri. 7th. Sept. Saw Ed. I. this A. M. in P. O. & Viola & Jen. Cunnyworth are up & want us to go over So Sarah & I went after school. It rained so we stayed all night. Bob Joyce (fisher) was there, had a pleasant ev'g excepting playing forfeits.
Sat. 8th. Sept. Mrs. I. gave me a pretty hen & rooster we carried them home in A.M. It was very cold. Met Grant in buggy. Girls came
over in ev'g. We had a lovely time just girls.
Sept. 9th. A good crowd at church to-day. Mr. Ferguson preached a good sermon then commenced Revival Meetings to start Mon. Had a prayer meeting after preaching nearly all congregation stayed. Alf & Joe Tracy came up for tea after church.
Sept. 10th. Went to station with Sarah & took bouquets of flowers for Jen. & Viola. Liz. Car & Ed. & M.Colton & N. Joyce were there. Miss English came to give me lesson & I was away. Ma & Pa went to Scar. drove down. M.L. & Sarah went to Church. A good meeting.
Sept. 11th. Got a book of London Views for Net. out of P.O. Gave Sarah a M. Lesson after school. She & I went to Church.
Sept. 12th. J. Bray came over this A.M. after squash. Em. Triller here for. {forenoon} Wants me to help in choir by singing alto. Went down with her & Maria & Jane who called for us to practise. Mrs. Wild called in phaeton & drove us down. Em & I went round to McCauley's for key & to get Johns. to come & help sing but he was not able
Em. got Arch to drive her & Isa Custer home. Max stayed up here after fetching Ida down. He stayed a long while after I came home. Jane stayed all night. He & Net. & I saw {sat?} out on verandah in moonlight.
Sept. 13th. Thurs. Gave Ada 17th lesson. Sarah & I went to church. It raining a little.
Sept. 14th. Fri. Jane went home this morniing. M. L. Net & Ida go to church while Sarah & I stay home getting ready to go to Toronto Exhib. to-morrow. John came home again with the girls to stay all night.
Sept. 15th. Sat. Mr. Thompson drove Edith down before we were ready so we hurried - did not eat much breakfast. He drove us to station. All got children's tickets for 1/8 fare. Not many from Bronte & quite a few from Palermo. Mr. Petch on train, got introduction. Miss Oughtred got on at Clarkson. Hardly knew her she was dressed in peacock blue - hair up high. She & I together all day & Sar. & Edith
Saw quite a lot at Oakville I know. We went to Toronto City first. Sarah got a doz. card photos taken. Eat lunch in G.A.'s office. Went to grounds on boat Hastings. We had quite a lot of fun counting gray horses in City. Miss Oughtred stayed & went back to city over Sun. Saw Frank Baker while waiting for train.- Mr. Coates & Mary & others. Hard time to get a seat such crowds on train. Had to sit in 2nd. Class car. Walked down from station. Ida & Net. there to meet us. E.B.Y. stayed here all night. Saw a balloon go up.
Sun. 16th. E.B.Y. stayed till S.S. time then went home. Edith I & Liz. Car. are in Toronto to stay a week. Saw them in palace yesterday. Had prayer meeting again after church. Max came while eating tea. Shook hands with us all - the first Sarah shook hands with after counting 100 horses
Sept. 17th. Mon. Miss English gave me 3rd lesson since holidays. She stayed all night. Went to church with us. Max walked up with Sar. & I.
Sep. 18th. Tues. - Blandina returned from trip just at noon. I had my dinner on boat. Jennie & Sarah came back to school, a little before four. Came up here then Net & I went down for tea. She went to church with us & slept on boat. N.G. & family up here.
Sep. 19th. Wed. Boat went to Hamilton about 9 A.M. Mrs. J. P. Louckin came on 2 train. Sarah met me after 4 and we went in to see Mrs. M. Craney's baby. Sarah & I went to church. Max & Grant there. Max drove Sarah & Grant, me home. We went down lakeshore past Bunstons & home down Concession.
Sep. 20th. Eliza Williams came while eating tea. We stayed with Eliza & big girls went to church. I slept with Mrs. J.P. Lou.
Sep 20th. M. L. went to Toronto with Mrs J.P. L. Eliza went at noon, & took my gossamer & left hers by mistake. She came to bid me good bye with Sarah. This Morning I went up shore a piece with Emily Triller who came here & stayed all night last night. We had a nice talk & walk. Sar. & I went to church.
Sep. 22nd. Pa & ma came home. Ma came with Maria on train. Mandy & Mrs. Hixson brought over flowers to make bouquets for church. Went down after 9 o clock to put them there for Quarterly Meeting to morrow. Max was here a while to night.
Sept. 23rd. All went to church. Mr. Leek only minister. A splendid meeting. Isa & Net. left to get dinner. Cooked it & left to see baptism. Mr. Sherdan, Minnie, & Mrs. Ferguson's girl came up for dinner. Ella McKay came up for tea. Mr. Harris preached in ev'g.
All went to church but Sarah & Ma.
Sept. 24 Mon. Miss English did not come as it was raining.

Wed. 10. Sep./ 84. Sarah & I churned & then M.W. & I ironed & pa taking his bed of room for to make more room for Drs. & Ida sweeping Pa went up to meet the "Willsstanley etc. continued from this book.
Thurs. 11.th. / 84. I did work up stairs & they went to pick cucmbers & I picking out the best gems of mine. Us busy ironing & I started to mend then went & cleaned out grate & raked yard B.4. dinner. I started to read Dr. book of Mrs. Ing. & Sarah wanted me to go to gather tomatoes & {pairs?}{pears} & her & Ida got dressed & I cleaned windows & Miss Hallem here too then it late when got through & I just went & read in parlor till 6. late getting work done. Mr. & Mrs. Williams & Mr. & Mrs. Broderick & Allie Louckin came here. We sang a few pieces & then to bed.
Friday. 12th. Sep. M.W. & I washed flannels. late getting breakfast. After dinner I went out to get in onions & so I went on down to P.O. got papers & was reading when M.W. came out & took papers in. I dressed & Edith Ing. came & Old Mrs Fisherman Joyce her & Allie M. T. & Sarah went home with Edith. We were late getting work done. E.M. & I got calves
across. I wrote a letter to Josie Gilbert. & to bed at 10.
Sat. 13th/ 84. Sarah & I churned. Ida went for Bronte got letter for M.W. for Elizabeth & me for Sarah from Annie & Dr. came while ma eating her breakfast, & sweeping & I gathered cucumbers & E.W. drove Allie to station noon train & ate dinner. Had scrubbing to do after dinner & George Williams came B. 4. we got through. I finished at 5 & then I milked early & got washed B. 4. M.W. went to station for Elizza Lizzie Walton & I had such a time to write this M.L. took ink bottle from me. E.M. brot one letter from E.W. & his photo. to bed 10.
Sun. 14th. Sep. I got up early B.4. Frank & brushed plus swept floor & made ready the fire & went to mill & came in & no one up & so I helped get breakfast & it 9. A. M. B.4. got our breakfast, did work & then slept till 2 P.M. & I was dreaming about Ma being dead & the funeral was here & I was crying very much. Then as I awoke Ma called to me & I went to her & I ate my breakfast dinner & All went to church but Lizzie & I & I washed dishes & she waited on Ma & I just through as they came home from church & Archie Spears hear {here} for tea. ML & him went for drive & us girls singing for Ma & then
we all went for a walk & Mrs Spears here & S. & Ida went a piece with her. I did not go to church or S.S.
Mon. 15th/ 84. Lizzie went home on 1st train & I blacking stoves all day B.4. dinner & M.W. started to wash P.M. & Ida & I picked pears. Mrs. McCraney came up & Mrs. Wright. Then I helped them finish washing & it nearly dark. Ate our supper by lamplight. I wrote a letter to E.W. & to bed at 10. late getting up.
Tuesday 16th. Sun. M.L. went down to keep the P.O. all day for McCraney for they went to Exhibition It very windy & smokey. After got work done I ran to the P.O. B.4. Sarah & got letter for M.W. Sarah baking. E.M. went to Oakville. M.W. & Ida put out the clothes. I gathering tomatoes & then sat by Ma till dinner. I swept a little & comb hair & dictated to Sarah & E.M. sent me to tell Joe to finish work & drive him & Frank up to train. E.M. & Frank both going to fair. After work done S. Ida & I all went down to P.O. & church to practise for S.S. We had a good talk with Edith. I sat a while in Mr. Craneys store & then S. & I came home whistling & the other after awhile. I slept alone.
Wed. 17th Sep. Sarah & M.W. went to Toronto Joe them to station. I cleaned cellar out & picked cucumbers, pear & help Ida get dinner. Mr.
Collamore came & was hear {here} for dinner & I went to P.O. right after & got letter for S. Then finish scouring & picked pears & watched calves & fixed shoes & things writing in this. Maggie McCauley in morning here also. We got work done early & I was going to tea when Alf came I only ate a little then got my other dress on & he said he must go he drove down on a one seated rig. & we out on stoop talking & he gave Ida & I some candies & then he watered his horse & turned & around & he said for I & Ida to get on hat & go up to meet Sarah & so after coaxing we went us three when only room enough for one & he made the horse run to as fast as it could go. But train was gone past B.4. we got their {there}. Every one we passed Alf was hollerer out Hellow to see if Sarah was their {there} but could see no Sarah & when he drove us back Sarah was home. She came & talked to him & then he went. Bed 11.
Thurs. 18th Sep Frank came home on 12 train Wed. Eve. I had toothache & I slept nearly all morning & then finished worked & went when over for Mrs. Ing. When I got back Mrs. McCauley came. Willie Pickard & Mrs. McCay & they all went but Mrs. Ing here for tea. We got work done & I playing on organ &
pa wanted us to go over to Brodericks so we did & stayed a little & then they hitched up to go up to station for Arthur & Albert & so Ida & I went along to meet M.W. & such a crowd Just got in as train came & seen lots of people the platform crowded. Seen a lot off Middle road. We got home at 9 & to bed.
Friday 19th Sep/84. Pa dressed up & got Brodericks horse & went to Oakville & I was out in garden when he called me after he came back & told me to drive the horse home & Annie wanted me to help her. So I drove to P.O. first & got a letter from Ella McCay for M.L. Annie baking very busy just on her leg all day & I helped her. Emma Bray was over a little while in P.M. We were in swing & it made me feel sick. We went to milk & Mrs. Harris came & helped & I milked 3 & Annie 1 & Mrs. Harris 4 or 5. Every thing in a hurry all day & Arthur went up to station to met his Pa & Ma who went to Toronto on 1st train & it raining so after got children to bed, Arthur came back & he drove me home in rain. Mrs. Louek in from New Castle & M.L. came home very tired & sleeping sound. Our folks just {stay?} in {town?} & I talked so much while working.
Sat. 20thSep./84 It 8 when breakfast over & I then scrubbed the stove. Mrs. Bray come, nice morning. Churning, I gathered cucumbers & vegetables for dinner.
& I pressed some very pretty carrot tops. Aunt Loukin went home on noon train. I raking around in yard & in "grape garden" & got some grubs for Alymer {Aylmer} Johnston. I washed windows & Sarah did scrubbing & M. W. canning tomatoes when Willie & Mrs. Jones come to see E.M. & Ma. I played on organ & did all my work B. 4. got washed. E.M. has been sick nearly all day after {rain?} I milked my cows B. 4 Frank did his & he thought me mean. I got washed & writing in this. Ma had very bad pains. Pa went fishing after rain. Bed at 10. E.W. said Mrs. Colton very ill.
Sun.21th/ 84 After work done, S. & I in parlor & then Ida & I out getting flowers & then Sarah & I went to melon patch & got a melon & we called Frank & we all ate it. I set the table for dinner & then went & got ready for S.S. M.W. washed dishes & stayed with ma while we all went to S.S. I stayed for church. Amandia out with Will Jones. We walked {ryr?} road with Brays. Mr. Davidson had a new suit on. Minister gave out for the people to all pray for Mrs. Buck, Mrs. Walton & Spec. of some other funerals of late which has been. Alf passed us on road & he had JM {Tim?} buggy & Archie Spears & his 2 sisters Annie & Jane drove in also for to see Ma. Archie, Alf & I all sat on stoop & I was so cold. Alf went to see Bees & pick some Grapes & Archie tho't them splendid. After tea, I out milking & he came out & then after I got
work done. We were all looking for Arthur Broderick to come to go to church. Bert I got on horse & seen nothing of him then Alf hitched up & took Sarah & I up to Mount Pleasant. We went very fast. Had good sermon. Minister then gave it out again about Ma. When we came out we seen Ida & Annie Bro. & they came after we went. I shook hands with Geo. Peacock, Mr. Giles, 'Marlow' & seen {"Persy" ?} but not to speak. We had splendid drive home. My hat blew off. It rained & & we had to put cover over us & Sarah sitting on my knee. Ida home B.4. us & it on 9 when we got home & to bed.
Mon. 22nd./ 84. It raining & us washing. Blandina came in & Watson, Mrs. Mc. came up & I upstairs fixing album & layed on Frank's bed & went to sleep. boys milked. Night of Lecture but no one went from our house except Joe. Mr. Bro. came & talked & I dictated to Sarah & timed her. Ma worse had very bad pains.
Tues. 23rd/ 84. I sewed my jaket & N. gown & then M.W. & I went to gather cucumbers & tomatoes & Ida going to Bronte & I gave her a large one to take to boat & she made such a fuss over it. Mable came back with her & I help get dinner. I straightened and she & I put down cubrs {cucumbers}. My tooth got aching & I layed down about 4. But B.4. M.W. cut out my dress & making it & I gathered frill & Mrs. McCley came up in rain & told us Mrs. Colton has gone to rest at last. Isa & Mabel cracking
nuts. When eating tea Watson Prof. came & we had my melon & gave them some. Dr came & us all went down in parlor & Prof. singing & playing some lots of sing. & at last got me up to play & then they all went to boat but Mable & us to bed & I went & talked to Sarah about Prof.
Wed. 24th. It raining but it cleared up & it was warm & M.W. making catsup. Sarah got letter from Minnie. Sarah putting out the clothes. Ida went to Bronte for some nails for Pa making water trough, & I ironing. I mended print dress & helping get dinner. E. W. bro't some fish home. Ida went again for pa to Bronte M.W. help S. with dishes. I washed flannel & swept & cleaned floors & layed on bed. Then got ready with S. to go to see Mrs. Colton. Pa wanted Ida to go again for she did not the right kind of nails for her so S. went & I went to meet her & got to Bronte B.4. she came out of store & then I went & stayed in Wilsons to wait till she went home & back & Ida came with her & we all Villa & us went down to see her. It so windy blew us around. Went a quite a while Ida fixed flowers with she took done in dish. Mrs. I. there. Mrs. Cumming {?} showed us in to Mrs. Colton & Mrs. Burton Hattie came in & we couldn't help laugh at Mrs. Burton. Got home at tea time. It dark when got work done. Joe sick in barn.
Thur. 25th / 84 Did work & then S. & I ironed & had dinner over early dishes washed by 1. & dressed when Lizzie Forfar came of 2 train with
Gordon & got them their dinner when Mrs. Curtis & Ida came & I out in garden eating grapes & then came in & talked to them & I got basting my sapper sleaves & S. was working chainstitch on a dress & Mrs. Curtis told her she doing it backwards & M.W. got tea early for Curtises to go home. B.4. dark. When we got to dinner early Pa M.W. & M.L. went to Mrs. Colton funeral & Curtises came after they had been there also. Ma good deal better. Mr. Husland came to pay Joe. After they went I was starting to mend stocking when Dog bark & went out & it Mrs. Williams & Melville Lucas come & bro't our album & talked & got some grapes & then went.
Frid. 26th // 84. S. & I churned did work M.W. baking pumkins. I swept up stairs & cleaned windows till dinner time. I went to out house & sat & then out to pick cucumbers pears & was picking all afternoon. Mrs. Page 2 children & Mrs. Wilson came up to see Ma. Girls had Ma out-doors on rocking chair for a little while. Very busy all day. I changed my dress B.4. tea. Pa read B.4. we had tea dishes done I finishing cleaning Dog barked & I looked through blind & see a red light in lane. M.L. seen someone in lane so Joe went with gun &
shot it off & seen fellows by then had pumkins made into faces light eyes. Us three reading {attending?} to bed.
Sat. 27th./ 84. Raining all morning & I swept in hall & did scrubbing & got dinner & I did dishes & pick cucumbers & scrubbed & got through at 4. Lizzie help me make a flannel shirt & I got eating my supper when M. F. L. came up lane & Ida went to entertain him & I went to milk & then S. & Ida & Frank played organ with him & I did their work & they finished my shirt. S. & M.F.L. walking in garden & us writing in album at. We all write in MFL's album.
Sun. 28th. Sep It seemed to take me a long time to get work done I played on organ then Frank called me & I went & had some watermelons & I got washed & had dinner & then went to S.S. It rained stayed for church no organist hard times to get singing started. S. & I went to McCraneys for Gordon & Mrs. lent us a shawl & ulster {long loose overcoat} & Joe took Gordon home we had quite a time. Davidson & Archie Spears at our place & Ma laughing at S. in ulster. I had to play & sing for them. After Davidson went but Archie stayed till after Pa read & I was so sleepy I laying on sofa in parlor & then Ida & I
singing alone & I went to bed at 9.
Mon. 30th. Sep. Washing we washed blankets & flannels & colored clothes first & us not through till after noon then Mrs. Bray came & Edith S. & I went with Edie over to Brays & I sewing at my shirt & after tea Ida crocheting on it when Max & Melville came & I got dressed & went in & they stayed till 11. We played a game of {Shy Sno?} etc. & talked & Max found a cigar which Annie hid of his & I gave Melville my gem & we were out in garden getting pears & grapes & I folks wanted them to go. Melville did not take the hint for a long time. We went to bed in a hurry after they left. The cow calved in morning.
Tues. 1st October. Sarah went to P.O. & Ida took sick at breakfast & I did their work & then I wrote a letter to Annie to put in basket of pears to send to G.A. & then I gathered tomatoes & cucumbers & Ida learnt me how to crochet on my shirt & I after dinner finished it & then I picked up 2 pails of apples for pigs & went to see Boys work at well at barn & then Ida S & I all out all afternoon picking our apples in orchard. I darned stocking till bed time. Sarah had tooth ache.
Wed. 2nd./ 84 I did work & went with boys to get pumkin & cabbages & I got some more tomatoes
then cleaned floor while M.W. & Ida got dinner . Sarah went to Brote {Bronte} twice 1st time & 2nd for Gordon at school. Brays girls went to Hamilton for M. I writing this B. 4 dinner. Ma up as usual. I changed my dress & I darning of stocking when Mrs. McCauley & then Mrs. {Gastion?} & Net. & M.L. with her over to Mrs. Patterson & Pa got shaved & dress to go to Hamilton. I got dressed again & went with him. Got in town about 8. roads very heavy & wet met dozs of teams coming home when we were going. Slept on sofa at W. G. & next day.
Thursday 3rd O. I get marketing till dinner & Ida came with Gordon off train. A.M. & we had early dinner & went to fair. Very large crowd seen most every thing. Seen Mr. Brymald {Terie?} McMichael. Brays girls & Will Jones. Kate Blanchard & Wallace, Mable & I lost & Ida & then found Wallace & he took us through sideshow & then over home at 6. Had tea & Mrs. Barrie came to station with us & it raining most all day. Brays girls there & I came with them on 9.35 train. Had splendid time was made acquainted with Mr. Inglehart.
Mr Watson of Baker. Had some fun B.L. on train. got a ride home with Brays when it got in at 11.
Friday 4th. / 84. Folks never knew I was home till I got up in morning & did work & pealed pumkin picked apples off road & got dinner. Sarah sending {currants?} to Mrs McCay's & over to Bigg's & I sorted onions & hitched horse for ma for she went for a drive to P.O. her & M.T. I swept up stairs & picked eye potatoes till night & milked my 2 cows & left Frank his & he didn't like it. Amandia & Mrs. Hixson came & Emily Triller & her Pa came. Ida came off 6 train. It just a lovely, warm moonlight night & I sitting out back dooor & to bed.
Sat. 5th./ 84. Fine days. Churned, Ida got a lot of mushrooms & I did scrubbing when Annie B. & Annie T. came & saw me. Ma pretty well. Got work all done B. 4 dinner. E.M. & Frank to Oakville fair & I had head ache all afternoon & E.M. told me to help boys at potatoes but I didn't. It rained & Annie & Sarah had Dr for dinner. Joe killed kittens at barn. I went to P.O. & I washed & writing & to bed.
Mr. & Mrs. Broderick drove here from sata station & bro't Jennie Anderson & 2 cousins which I had never seen B. 4 & we had them over Sunday. I went to sleep & the girls came to bed about 11, & giggled & {?} {tish?} a proper & Annie T. made a mistake & kissed Frank for Ida & we had such a laugh.
Sun. 6th/ 84 Oct. After work was done the 2 Annies & I went out getting Pears Apples Grapes & we got strawberries ripe & black {capes?} also & then sang in parlor & got ready for S.S. Annie B. got dinner. I came home after S.S. & met 2 Annie's & Carry came back with me to stay with Ma & I sang for her. After tea I waited & I was eating when Alf came & we had Minister for tea. Us in parlor when Max came & then Alf went. Max bro't my old gem for me & I exchanged with him & gave him a better one & I went to bed & Annie & him left for a walk left alone Jennie & E.M. {?}
Mon. 7th/ 84 Oct. Annie & Jennie got their breakfast & E.M. took them to station while the other Annie T. was sleeping in bed & got left. After work done I picked cucumbers & folks went home all on 12 train Pa drove & Sarah went along to station Ida went to Broderick to peal apples & I slept till 2. & then Sarah & I went out & picked up
potatoes all afternoon. Very tired. Had watermelon when finished E. M. went to Hamilton on 2 train.
Tues. 8th Oct. Ida went to Brodericks again & Sarah & I washing & I help get dinner. M.L. went up to see Dr. in morning. & I in to Jna's room after dinner. I didn't get work done till 4. & M.W. & Sarah finished washing & Ella McCauley came & Mrs. Bray. Sarah resting & I writing. Boys pick potatoes. Jna not so well. Bronte gets 4 mails a day. Sarah writing letter till 12 & sewing dress till 11. Girls went to Bronte & stayed late.
Wed. 9th / 84. It raining & I gathering tomatoes about 2 bus. Ida home. M.W. went over to Williams & stayed came home after noon & bro't me letter from Grant. I was sewing at dress & Ma helped me & it turned very cold & Sarah & I finished picking tomatoes & it very cold. Had hard freeze.
Thur. 10th Oct./84. Very cold & I put on all my flannels. E.W. bro't Mrs. McC. & Ella up to help pick potatoes. S & I just got dishes done, & us went out with them & we worked hard & steady & kept boys drawing in. We picked up 10 loads & M.W. had dinner to get herself. Mrs. McC washed dishes & Dr came & had his dinner & I made some beds at noon & we had hard afternoon, had a water melon in field & I rode out to field in wagon & would have fell out had not Frank caught me. Us very tired & got my tea & went to bed B.4 8.
Friday 11th Oct. S & I churned & I swept up stairs & cleaned windows B. 4 dinner. Mrs. McC. & Ella husking corn A.M. We all went out & picked up apples in P.M. Mrs. Ing. & Mrs. Charlotte Polic came here & we finished apples & heard Blandina toot & then folks came & Waltises & Sarah with them & Mrs. Ing. for tea & I got cleaned & dressed & had tea & then sewed buttons on my dress & Mrs Williams & Herbert came. Herbert telling me about Ernest getting drifted ashore. Watson came up & we made pump. after dark & Pa watching grapes at night.
at night Sat. 12th 84. Oct. Ida went away again & I busy straightening sheds up & Mrs. Camp. came seen Ella & I cleaned stoop B. 4 dinner. I washed dishes scoured tea & kettle & spoons & Emma Bray came & Sarah & I scrubbing stoop till 5 P.M., & Emma & W. & M.L. went to P.O. & S & M.W. & Pa getting washing & I with Ma & blackened shoes & went to see if M.L. got in P.O. & she gave me a letter from E.W. & I went to milk & read it. Got tea when Watson & Wallace came & I got weighed. 120 & S. 123. etc. & went to get washed & it 10. B 4 started for I wrote first. Aunt Eliz came & we had an other crowd over Sunday.
Sun. 13th/ 84 Oct. Every sofa & bed occupied. Got breakfast over about 10. had 17. I read letters & played on organ. Played on bed while Ida & I got ready for S.S. & I
started to write to Grant when called to get dinner. all went to church even Wallace but Emma & I came home after S.S. & I finished letter when folks came from church. Jane Bray & Archie here. No one here for tea. Us girls & Frank singing for Ma & Wallace & Sarah had their tea at Mrs. Ing. & they came in parlor & then had such time getting to go to boat. We all went, Wallace, Sarah, Ida S. Ferg, Emma & I Sarah & Emma had lantern. Walllace came up to corner with us. Feet wet. Boat went in night
Mon. 14th./ 84 Oct. Hurry after breakfast to get off over to Brodericks to peal apples. They all got a ride but I got left so had to walk. We ate our dinner on a newspaper on a dirty table, cold dinner, pealed all day. Boat came back & Mrs. McC. came up for Emma & Gordon in bed at 10. Then Joe came home hitched horse & drove them to boat, & carried Gordon asleep & I sewing & it 11 when to bed. Had lots of visitors over at dry house.
Tues. 15th. Oct. Washing in a great hurry. Mrs. McCauley husking & got done washing B. 4 dinner & then went over to peal again. Dr. here. Mrs. Broderick helped us peal & got done at 5.30. & got work done home & got ready & us girls went to P.o. Mrs. Wilson called for Villa & went to boat for Mable & Will (boy) took us across creek & we peaked {peeked} in shanties & went on
up to Ing. Willie's birthday, Mables & Villa's also. had Will Mitchell, Will Lucas & {Myron Coperty?} & his cousin & Henry Nelson for fellows & Ida S. Millar, Mable, Edith, Annie Lipcott & I. Had nice time John I. went out & bro't Alf Alton in with him. He did not stay long. Played games till 11 & Will Mitchell & I bumpted heads . We sang Hold the fort & come home & was ahead alone till I got to hall & John I. went with Villa Henry home with us. I had to make bed on sofa. It 12 B. 4 got to bed.
Wed. 16th. I picked a few tomatoes green & then S. & I went out to husk corn till noon & then we all went over to peal again. We had Mable & Gordon out helping us husk. I was just terrible sleepy, & we pealed till we couldn't see & then came home. M.W. had Ma over to Mrs. Williams for tea. M.W. milked for Joe away thrashing over to Mrs. Brays. Got work done & M.W. & M.L. went over to Brodericks & I writing & getting ma something to drink.
Thur. 17th./ 84. Oct. Every body busy.. Ida & I went over to Mrs. Williams right after Breakfast to peal apples & M.W. & S. baking & Emma & Mable here & Gordon. We stayed all day Had dinner in house & it some what lonesome a place after Brodericks. It dark when we got home went
to P.O. & got 2 letters for Sarah from Annie & other from Gallagher. I just got home & then had went over to Adams on an errand, & nearly got lost coming back in dark. I ironed & mended dress & to bed 10.
Frid. 18th Oct. / 84. Us all went over to Broderick took our dinner, & they had Thasher & it a very long time B. 4 dinner for we all were up B. 4 daylight. We ate our dinner & got up on loft to watch men go by & instead come into barn & we couldn't get down to peal. Got through early & had swing & come home. I swept up stairs & us girls picked grapes till dark. had Mrs. Mowatt here sewing & all night. Mrs. Broderick had Emma as Bray helping them. I sewing at dress.
Sat. 19th. Oct. Up late. Ida went over to Wilds & Biggs while S. & I churned & did work & then us all went & picked grapes & M.W. hurrying to get Annie's dres to send on at 2 train & Sergant boy called for grapes & had such hurring {hurrying} to get them ready Ada McCauley helping us. I cleaned stoop from that till I ate dinner & then got dress & we all went over again to peal apples. I was behind the rest. Thrashing machine came to our place but not to work till
Mon. I had tooth ache all afternoon. Ma & M.L. came over to Broderick & surprised us. We came home about 5.30 met Mr. Inglehard in buggy. He lifted his hat. Us girls sitting up till 12. Ida trimming hats & I finishing shirt which Ma did for me & Sarah busy. Had Ella McCay & her husband called to see Ma. It has been a very busy week.
Sun. 20th./84 Got up late at 9. After work done S & I singing & I layed down to sleep at 1 but called up to get ma her dinner & then layed on Joe bed & had a good sleep till church folks came home & then dressed to tea at 5. I coaxing Joe & Frank to drive to church. Us girls all in sitting room with ma in Ev'g, When Josh & Amandia came S. & I singing for Ma. To bed early.
Mon. 21st. Oct. Up early & had breakfast waiting for men & us girls off pealing again. S. went to get Bray's girls & Ida stayed home to assist M. W. We had 3 of Bray's helping us & S & I forgot our dinner & I came home for mine & watched Thrashers eat & took water melon & Grapes & Pie over to S. Alf & Mr. Wilson came for machine for we finished at dinner. S. laying on sofa when Alf came in evening we talked & played checkers & gave him some grapes & we talked outside. It a nice night.
Tues. 22nd/ 84. Oct. We washed. Ida birthday she went over to keep on fire for E.W. at Brodericks. S. & I picked grapes 9 baskets. I sewing. M.W. damping clothes when Max came & M.W. made me change my dress & I just done so when he went. I gave him some grapes.
Wed. 23rd. / 84 Pa went to Oakville. Flurry bustle to get S & Ida over to Brodericks & I ate part of breakfast & got their dinner set up & then ate some more & strained milk & got Pa his bkft. I did some house work & picked grapes & help pack for 12 train. Late getting dinner. I picked sage & beans & seen 3 fellows go down road & they came in our field then seen one & got out & I went to P.O. the way I was. I sewing still.
Thur. 24th Oct. Us girls printing labells {labels} & then S. & I picked snow apples. Us girls out topping mangels & it very cold & windy. Mrs. Williams here. It come as such a snow storm & continued till after dark, such hurrying every body hopping & freezing & getting things covered up. I milked all alone.
Frid. 25th/ 84. Churned. Ada Mc here & I sweeping all morning & I did dishes & then hurried to P.O. & got letters for S. from Annie. Us girls out topping mangels & came in at 4.30. & S. & I write letter to Annie & I did work & finished print dress.
Sat. 26th. Annie birthday. Did scrubbing B. 4. dinner
& I had afternoon to myself for 1st afternoon for a long time. I put on new dress & got cleaned up. George Williams here. Ella McCay & her mother came up & had a nice talk & it late visiting in this.
Sun. 27th / 84. played & sang ate melon had bread & milk for my dinner & I burnt my tonong tongue. All went to S.S. Ida stayed with Ma. Dr. Buck & his daughter & wife also came to see ma. I stayed for church. Mr. & Mrs. Brimby there & a lot of folks also. It cold had Archie S. & Minister for tea. {symbols U J V with 2 dots, 7 L V L U with dot in middle}. When {symbols LJ V with dot in middle, square, 7 with dot in middle, J. V with dot in middle, LJ. } He stayed a long time & sang. Go bed early.
Monday 28th. Oct. / 84 Rainy. Picking grapes. Killed pig. I gathered popcorn after dinner. Mrs. Wright up sewing most all day. I fixed album in morning Mr. Williams come to see us in eve. (I started crocheting.) would peal for him {?}. Us girls sewing in P.M. Ida trimming hat.
Tues. 29th ./ 84. we picked all the grapes in morning & I picking apples up in P.M. & other girls trimming grapes in house. I very tired & warming myself & hunting for crocheting when Max come & I ran out doors & I in Joe's bedroom when he came out in kitchen & Joe tried to get in but I held the door & after awhile he went in room & S. went in & talked to him & I got up stairs to bed early.
Wed. Oct. 30th./84 Had a very heavy white frost & we washed Ida went to P.O. & got a card for me from Annie Ida out topping carrots & I washed
dishes & M.W. & S. straightening things & I dressed & went to Foster Joyces & to get corn & to P.O. Mia Ing. & Villa Wilson here & in eve. Maggie McC. & her {?} here when Aunt Eliza Walton came off 7 train.
Thurs. 30th/ 84. Oct. Us girls & E.M. & Frank out husking corn it nice day. E.M. & M.W. went to Oakville. They first drove Ma & M.L. down to Mrs. Johnstons for the afternoon We husking till dark & Joe went after Ma. Aunt Eliza home all alone. Us all in a hurry getting tea & fixing Ma & foing work. M.W. bot new Jersey gloves for herself & me & Sa. coat & slippers & white apron for us all & I cut out a face on pumkin & to bed.
Frid. 31st Oct./84. I churned & sat in W.C. & then went out about 11 to husk corn. Boys came in B. 4 one & I saw a steamer go up lake. Mrs. Wright up again. It raining & S. & I did dishes while Ida cleaned coal stove. Mrs. Oakley came & Mrs. Coates with Mr. Williams driving her & Mrs. Fisherman Joyce bro't Ma a lovely salmon trout fish very large 8 lbs. & Mrs. Broderick came & Mrs. Coates went together over to Brays. I ironed & did work. E.M. dressing to go to a party with Brays. Ida & S. went over to Brodericks to see Mary Coates & Frank hitched horse in cover'd buggy & he & I went to P.O. to Johnstons & then over to Williams' & it raining took Grapes over & money for {quartirage?} stayed a little while & came home drove over for girls
& to bed at 10. E.M. came home at 6 A.M. & to bed.
Sat. 1st Nov./84. I ironing & did my cleaning B4 dinner. Aunt went to Hamilton on 2 train & it raining. I read Globe in W.C. & I did little chores till dark. I bound hat Ma not so well in afternoon. It rained all afternoon & we finished ironing . M.W. & E.M. fixing & had a laugh & to bed.
Sun. Nov. 2nd / 84. I played directly after bkft & I fixed album & I slept till 12. We, S & I went to S.S. E.M. & M.L. went up to Mount Pleasant. M.L. wore Ida hat & so she could not go to S.S. I stayed for church & had a very good sermon soul & body. Choir late & had no music for pt. time. Alf here when we came in & Archie also for tea. E.M. away. Didn't do dishes but us young girls in parlor singing Mrs. Williams Herbert & Mrs. Spears came & Herbert in parlor & Arthur Brod. came & we had Frank also nearly as many Gents as Ladies. They all went away together.
Mon. Nov 3rd/ 84. Cold & we washed. Bessie Mowat here to see Ma & I chrocheting till dinner. We all out husking corn in P.M. it very cold. Dr. McCrimman here I wrote a letter to Annie & to bed.
Nov. 4th / 84. Maggie McCauley came up to sew. It raining. I went & posted my letter. I crocheting & reading paper in A.M. I put on potatoes for pigs in P.M. & finished crocheting. Butcher came after calf then I was out to barn. Maggie stayed all night. I got bothered so when reading papers for they would take farm away.
Wed. Nov. 5th/ 84. Very cold & Windy & I had to take card to P.O. in E.M. B. 4 bkft. I filled bed out all myself B. 4 dinner & I went to P.O. in J.U.W. B. & dinner also. I picked apples snow in Orch. out myself & I changed dress & played & then milked all cows & bed calves my self. Ma feels better to day, H. I. went down home with Maggie & it snowing then us writing in {Morning?}
Thur. Nov. 6th/ 84. Got up late & such a hurry to even get dishes done B. 4 the folks came E.M. met them. G.A.'s family & annie & je Covey. In parlor all A.M. Singing & I played Joe to sleep. Pa & Willie talking. Ida & I waited Had 15 for dinner. I did dishes & then we talked & we all went out to "play tag" & seen Jennie Wild coming & us all raced down to meet her. She stayed she had her school mate with her (Miss Davis) Willie put there {their} horse in & I changed my dress & it very cold so I got in flower roots & plants & then in parlor for a little while. M.W. called me out to start coal stove in hall & then Jennie Wild {henry?} & Willie drove them. E.M. working at apples & Frank went to Burlington for barrels. S. & I milk & Willie & Jennie came back for tea. I ate my tea with Ould Folks & young Folks had theirs after. Carry made some taffy & I played for Ma & She in parlor for a {wonder?} Girls left them dishes to come to sing for Ma. We sang & then Jennie putting on her things to go when Max & Grant came Grant only stayed till 10 for he had to drive to Hamilton that in {?} When girls were going Archie Spears came & he thought we had a party for they made such a noise. S. washed dishes at 11 at night. Grant left Mr. Turnhill at Curtises. Then he came back.
