and out to the end of the dock. Windy and cool but beautiful. Called for Jean and while Charles & Mr. Mickle went up to the Mouth of the river, Mrs. Bell, Jean and I went Shopping. Jean tried on boots and then we had ice cream. Started home about 4 p.m. and got home a few minutes after 5. Raining when we left Southampton and had a couple of showers on the way home. Paisley Fair out in great stir as we passed through the village. After tea Dorothy and I went to the Bijou to see "Haunting Shadows" (taken from "The House of a Thousand Candles.") Enjoyed it but not as good as the book. Cut out my centrepiece after tea. Fire in grate. Thursday Sept. 30th. Very wet. 1st day of Chesley Fair. Went down for meat. Fire in grate. Did the Mending (about 3 hours work). Went down town in afternoon. Wrote to Clare. Fixed cards for Primary class in Church School. Heavy showers all day.
