Tuesday Sept. 28th.

Fine day. Charles and I dug potatoes for 3/4 of an hour before breakfast. Then I worked at the potatoes from 9.30 until 12 - finished taking them up and picked up a wheel barrow full. After dinner I went down town for the Mail and at then put new knob on my typewriter roller. At 4.p.m. Dorothy and I went with Mr. & Mrs. Bell and Jean for a drive out into Bentinck. I did not know there was such beautiful Scenery near Chesley. Hills & Lakes, and woods. Passed through Crawford

and Louise. Had a chat in Crawford with Mrs. Brown, Crawford School teacher. From the top of a very high hill we looked down over hill and vale with a ribbon of road winding away into the distance with a most glorious Sunset at the end, one great golden glow at the end of the road but red and purple and angry looking at the sides until it merged into the grey and black of storm clouds while the north was all black. Got home about a quarter to six and a little sprinkle of rain came on so Charles and I picked up and brought in the rest of the potatoes and emptied the wheelbarrow which I had filled in the Morning. At 8 p.m. I went to the Church and with Mrs. Rogers started out to a corn roast (Cavell Girl's Club & {Osagee?} Rangers). Mr. Fiddis joined us at Brown's barn to look after the boys. We went along by river, through Brown's bush to the

other side where the fire was made & the corn roasted and marshmellows toasted. Most beautiful night and the Moonlight on the river was very beautiful. Pink Hetherington, Willard Boos and some other boys of their ilk made a nuisance of themselves by wiring up the gate, stringing wires between trees in the bush and then came up in a canoe and threw mud etc. When a battle followed and the Osagee Rangers splashed them well by throwing stones and thought they {inpaired?} their canoe with a large stone. Coming home we went around the bush. Gerald Green, Alma Murphy, Marion Glenn, Margaret Fry, Annie Sloan and I went straight up to the road where we had to climb a wire fence, then we came home along 22nd concession. The rest went over a wire fence and followed along the river & found the gate out of Brown field wired. I met Mrs. Rogers at the top of hill and walked on home with she and Sidney & Hilda Barrett. It seems

too bad that a few boys should be allowed to interfere with the fun of others. Starting to rain as we reached McDonald House corner.

Wednesday Sept. 29th.

Went down town in the Morning for meat. Quite cool & rather cloudy. At 10.20 a.m. Mr. Bell called and Charles (got him at office) Mr & Mrs. Bell, Jean and I started for Southampton. It was quite windy and rather cool driving over. Dined at the hotel. After dinner we went down to beach. The lake was great - green in spots - deep blue in others - White-Capped and great breakers rolling in. We called on Mrs. McGorman who was canning fish and explained the process for us. Nearly all the cottages are shut-up and I fancy she must be lonely in these grey days. We left Jean with her and Mr. Bell, Mrs. Bell Charles and I walked the whole length of the beach

and out to the end of the dock. Windy and cool but beautiful. Called for Jean and while Charles & Mr. Mickle went up to the Mouth of the river, Mrs. Bell, Jean and I went Shopping. Jean tried on boots and then we had ice cream. Started home about 4 p.m. and got home a few minutes after 5. Raining when we left Southampton and had a couple of showers on the way home. Snowing - real snow too. Dorothy was down at McDonald's for a couple of hours. I went down town about 5 p.m. to get some things. Still snowing. As leaves are all in trees, the snow is bending them right over. The Manse apple trees are badly broken and between Biehn's and Davey's ever so many big limbs are down. Electric wires broken in some places but our lights came on shortly after 5. This was our Fair Day but the weather was so bad the Fair was postponed until next year. The Concert - Rupert Legate Co. was on.

Dorothy and I went. Raining at night which was fortunate as a great many trees would have been spoiled. I called at Kellerman's on my way down town and delivered my report.

generation.
