No. 9. === Coughing, choking or swallowing will generally promptly cease on stopping the drop for a moment and, on resuming, making a more gradual increase. By the time the ether is falling in a steady stream unconsciousness will generally supervene. Then the towel may be gradually folded around the mask so as to partially exclude the air. Then to prevent the increased ether content of the inspired mixture causing spasm or reawakening reflexes additional ether should not be poured for a moment or two when it should be given as freely as possible to full anesthesia.—Dr. J.
